I agree, very well could be 0-5 going into league, hopefully the team is healthy going into league, I’ve seen many teams before with an overly ambitious schedule lose a player or 2 early and then it all just goes down hill.
Schurr had a far better senior team in 2024. Those boys played up and demonstrated they belonged. Against Muir, they were on track to win but were derailed by the coaching staff with some questionable play calling like that squib kick. The 2025 team has some talent like Chavez, Gallardo, and the Marago boys, but the team will struggle with that overly ambitious nonleague schedule.
There is no way they are not in top 3 in league and miss playoffs . We can wager a pastrami at the Hat on the Schurr vs BG game right now …
I’m not a Schurr fan or apologist , just realistic
I can just tell you it’s not a slam dunk as you think, BG returns a lot of guys, they had a lot of young players in key positions last season. Schurr has been good in the Almont just because Montebello HS has managed to alienate the Montebello Indians, however Schurr is not 3 deep at anything, a few key injuries and your season can be flipped upside down, big risk trying to be splashy like this.
The league season will be a walk
In the park after those first 5 monster matchups . Thats all in ! They know they will win league , so no problem
Sometimes taking on these monster schedules doesn’t do you any good unless you are one of those programs that are 3 deep at every position. La Serna can play that kind of schedule because they can lose a handful of guys and plug in players who are just as good as the starter. Schurr had a really good senior class in 2023, unfortunately it did them no good because it put them in a harder division and got ousted early. You need to find a good balance of hard enough schedule to drop a few games and get into a winnable division, playing a terribly weak schedule doesn’t help either because calpreps tends to overrate you and sets you up for failure. We will see if the scheduling works out for Schurr, it’s a bit risky.
Pencil-in three big, fat losses to RHP, LS and Bonita. No need to wonder about it for a second; the only question is: will those losses make the Spartans better, or will they just get beat-up?
