Game Night: Week 4

All kickoffs are at 7:00 PM unless otherwise indicated:

Friday September 18

La Canada (4-0) at Maranatha (3-1)

La Canada comes into the game unbeaten led by quarterback Joe Bell and high powered offense. Last week the Spartans dispatched of a good Crescenta Valley team. Maranatha and quarterback Cooper Berry have been lighting it up as well with one hiccup against Rio Hondo Prep two weeks ago. Expect another high scoring affair. Maranatha will be in it until the end and maybe even have a lead early. But La Canada makes enough plays to come out on top. Spartans win a shootout.

Friday September 19

Baldwin Park (4-0) at Monrovia (4-0)

Another battle between that will keep the scoreboard operators busy. Both teams are undefeated and both can score. The question is who can make the most stops? Baldwin Park makes a big defensive play late and holds on. Braves remain unbeaten.

Bishop Amat (2-2) at Upland (1-3)

Bishop Amat has been up and down. The Lancers have been winning one and then losing one on a very tough schedule. Upland’s first four games have been no picnic either. Upland has lost three out of four. The Lancers should have enough to win this one.

Arroyo (1-2) at El Monte (2-2)

This looks like the battle for the Mission Valley League crown. The Lions started off hot but now have lost their last two games. They gave up 49 points to Cal last week. Arroyo picked up its first win after two losses to start the season. The Knights look like a team that is ready to assume their spot at the top of the MVL with Jim Singiser and the previous coaching staff back on the sidelines. Arroyo wins a close one.

Northview (3-1) at Covina (2-1) (Covina District Field)

Northview had a big win over La Serna last week. The Vikings have scheduled up this year and have been op to the challenge. Covina can score, the Colts have proven that, but in this game they may have bitten off more than they can chew. Who’s going to cover Isaiah Lucero? Northview gets the win.

Northview 31 Covina 14

Bonita (1-3) at Schurr (2-2)

Bonita is 1-3 in the standings but 2-2 on the field due to a forfeit loss to Diamond Ranch. The Bearcats are coming off of a Smudgepot win over San Dimas. Schurr is another team that has scheduled up this year. The Spartans beat Chino last week but will fall short short here. Bonita emerges with the win.

Bonita 28 Schurr 10

South El Monte (2-2) at Mt. View (3-1)

A win over South El Monte would be huge for Mt. View and head coach Mark Paredes. The Vikings are getting closer but are not there just yet. South El Monte, which is coming off a big win over Garey, opens league play with a victory.

South El Monte 24 Mt. View 13

Rowland (3-0) at Nogales (2-2)

The battle of the tracks. Rowland had an impressive win over Walnut last week while Nogales fell just short to Los Amigos. Raiders are still undefeated and are a team on the rise. The Nobles will be a test but Rowland finds a way in the end.

Rowland 21 Nogales 17

There are many schools that have players disqualified because of cheating. CIF calls the cheating violations. But the stories identifying all these schools and their players are being swept under the rug and are hard to find. This cheating has to stop and the CIF could stop it if it wanted to. Any school that forfeits games or has players disqualified should not be allowed to be in the playoffs. Play their schedule but keep them out of the playoffs!
