Game Night: Week 4

Jeremiah Alcantara (shown here against Green Valley) and the Northview defense will try to hold down Covina Friday night. (Photo by Duane Barker).

All kickoffs are at 7:00 PM unless otherwise indicated:

Thursday September 18

La Canada (4-0) at Maranatha (3-1)

La Canada comes into the game unbeaten led by quarterback Joe Bell and a high powered offense. Last week the Spartans dispatched of a good Crescenta Valley team. Maranatha and quarterback Cooper Berry have been lighting it up as well with one hiccup against Rio Hondo Prep two weeks ago. Expect another high scoring affair. Maranatha will be in it until the end and maybe even have a lead early. But La Canada makes enough plays to come out on top. Spartans win a shootout.

La Canada 35 Maranatha 31

Friday September 19

Baldwin Park (4-0) at Monrovia (4-0)

Another battle that will keep the scoreboard operators busy. Both teams are undefeated and both can score. The question is who can make the most stops? Baldwin Park makes a big defensive play late and holds on. Braves remain unbeaten.

Baldwin Park 42 Monrovia 35

Bishop Amat (2-2) at Upland (1-3)

Bishop Amat has been up and down. The Lancers have been winning one and then losing one on a very tough schedule. Upland’s first four games have been no picnic either. Upland has lost three out of four. The Lancers should have enough to win this one.

Bishop Amat 24 Upland 17

Arroyo (1-2) at El Monte (2-2)

This looks like the battle for the Mission Valley League crown. The Lions started off hot but now have lost their last two games. They gave up 49 points to Cal last week. Arroyo picked up its first win after two losses to start the season. The Knights look like a team that is ready to assume their spot at the top of the MVL with Jim Singiser and the previous coaching staff back on the sidelines. Arroyo wins a close one.

Arroyo 27 El Monte 24

Northview (3-1) at Covina (2-1) (Covina District Field)

Northview had a big win over La Serna last week. The Vikings have scheduled up this year and have been up to the challenge. Covina can score, the Colts have proven that, but in this game they may have bitten off more than they can chew. Who’s going to cover Isaiah Lucero? Northview gets the win.

Northview 31 Covina 14

Bonita (1-3) at Schurr (2-2)

Bonita is 1-3 in the standings but 2-2 on the field due to a forfeit loss to Diamond Ranch. The Bearcats are coming off of a Smudgepot win over San Dimas. Schurr is another team that has scheduled up this year. The Spartans beat Chino last week but will fall short short here. Bonita emerges with the win.

Bonita 28 Schurr 10

South El Monte (2-2) at Mt. View (3-1)

A win over South El Monte would be huge for Mt. View and head coach Mark Paredes. The Vikings are getting closer but are not there just yet. South El Monte, which is coming off a big win over Garey, opens league play with a victory.

South El Monte 24 Mt. View 13

Rowland (3-0) at Nogales (2-2)

The battle of the tracks. Rowland had an impressive win over Walnut last week while Nogales fell just short to Los Amigos. Raiders are still undefeated and are a team on the rise. The Nobles will be a test but Rowland finds a way in the end.

Rowland 21 Nogales 17

I’m surprised someone claiming they are not butt hurt and doesn’t care enough about what is written on here takes the time to write a whole 7 page essay.

Anonymous: you have it all wrong . I am very opposite of hurt! As a matter of definite facts, that all others can look above an decide, I feel much better seeing you veer far away from the focus of
“show me just one time I predicted a high school score”! I asked you if you could do this for others to see that you (not really for me because I already was about 99% sure you would not try because You thought you were dealing with another not knowing I am challenging you because all you do is act like a ‘self appointed genius’ when you actually are not close) do not have one ounce of credibility on this matter! Go ahead find it and show me and others.
You switched the focus of my challenging you to ‘find one’ into listing your genius 3. You lose ! Impossible for me to be hurt on this blog because its not important enough for me as it is for you.

    @Sports Man

All I said was I wanted to know who you have winning… Dang you sound so hurt over a harmless statement lmao

Credibility? Lol all statements I made about your precious LS are facts:

    – They are not as good as last year
    – coaching staff is overrated (can’t produce with the talent they have)
    – you need tougher skin it’s a blog homie

    LMAO

Anonymous? Try to copy and paste, just one comment I made EVER, Where I predicted a winner of a high school football game! Do you have the guts to try to find just one? Now I will definitely predict on a different focus! No you will not admit you are losing credibility ( even though you have never had much; only with your peers that insult LS with you

    Purple over Red
You obviously aren’t super invested into the program. Before 2024 they had 2 teams but only had 40 kids in the whole program. And what I heard from a source… close to the admin, the program was 17k in the red! The same District office employee tells me that the program has 60 kids but unlike 2017 they aren’t paying their players to come play. These are facts told to me by an actual district board employee. I would say, maybe gather credible information before spitting out false statements. Just a thought!

@Anon there is something clearly amiss at Arcadia . They have steadily declined since the start of 2024 season when new coach came in . Their numbers are way down , and they have cancelled lower level games . They’ve been non-competitive in their games this year .

This is actually fascinating matchup between programs going in different directions . Hoover has new staff trying to build culture and scheme while Arcadia is seemingly disintegrating. How long has it been since Hoover beat Arcadia ? Just wondering..,

@? Really it depends and is situational (Burbank and Bonita)-was it an honest mistake? If it only was those one respective games, they should have a chance as long as the mistake does not repeat. If it’s found to be repeated even when the head coach/team knew which in advance, then yes, that shall be agreeable

@Anonymous you might not be wrong. Seeing how Hoover was so close to winning against Arcadia last year, there may be a chance they end their drought. Arcadia had not been how they were back seven years ago-it may be a very long time coming if the Apaches were to go back to their glory days. Seems like if that becomes the case, looks like their only wins may be from TC (scrimmage which technically doesn’t really count) and Glendale

Something is not right in the high school football universe when Hoover is projected to beat Arcadia. Let me repeat that again, HOOVER to beat ARCADIA!!!!!!

There are many schools that have players disqualified because of cheating. CIF calls the cheating violations. But the stories identifying all these schools and their players are being swept under the rug and are hard to find. This cheating has to stop and the CIF could stop it if it wanted to. Any school that forfeits games or has players disqualified should not be allowed to be in the playoffs. Play their schedule but keep them out of the playoffs!
