NFL: Notes & Numbers

By Tim Byrnes

The AFC leaders are starting to take shape with the Bills 4-0, Steelers 3-1, and Chargers 3-1,  having sole control of their divisions while Indy and Jacksonville (3-1) share the AFC South.

The NFC is following predictions, for the most part: The Eagles are the lone undefeated team at 4-0, while the Lions 3-1, and Bucs 3-1 control their divisions.

The NFC West is packed top to bottom with the Rams, Niners, and Seahawks (3-1) all sharing the lead while the Cards sit at 2-2, in last place.

Week 4 started in Glendale:

Seattle (3-1) at Arizona (2-2): Seahawks, 23-20

While the Vikings try to find its new identity in Minnesota, its former QB Sam Darnold continues to lead his surprising Seahawks to the top of the NFC West.

The Seahawks defense, was also led by LB Uchenna Nwosu (2 sacks), and interceptions by Earnest Jones and Coby Bryant, who made Cards QB Kyler Murray wish he was playing shortstop for the Athletics.

The former top baseball prospect is becoming more predictable and injuries have slowed his elusiveness in recent seasons.

Sunday’s Games:

Indianapolis (3-1) at Rams (3-1): Rams, 27-20

Indy QB Daniel Jones is showing he can be a quality NFL quarterback but he couldn’t keep his Colts undefeated.

Rams QB Matthew Stafford lofted one of the most majestic passes of his career, for an 88-yard td to seldom-used WR Tutu Atwell, and the Rams held on for the win.

Puka Nacua went for 13 catches-170 yards-1 td to maintain his NFL lead in receptions/yards while safety Kam Curl hawked two interceptions and had nine tackles.

NY Giants (1-3) Vs. LA Chargers (3-1): Giants, 21-18

The winless Giants benched QB Russell Wilson for rookie Jaxson Dart and results were immediate.

Dart scrambled for a 15-yard score on his first career NFL drive and the youth movement began.

Fellow rookie RB Cam Skattebo added 90 yards of offense, and the Giants upset the previously undefeated Chargers.

Wide receiver Malik Nabors had a no-contact injury after his knee buckled in the 3rd quarter.

Jacksonville (3-1) at San Francisco (3-1): Jaguars, 26-21

Quarterback Brock Purdy’s return didn’t help the Forty-niners, and Christian McCaffery’s 151 yards of total offense was wasted as five turnovers doomed San Francisco.

Travis Etienne Jr., the NFL’s third-leading rusher, ran for 124 yards and a touchdown to be the “productive Travis” while all-everything Travis Hunter struggled.

Hunter caught just three passes for 42 yards, fumbled, and was benched after nine plays on defense.

Monday Night:

Miami (1-3) at New York Jets (0-4): Dolphins, 27-21

In the battle of really bad teams, Miami managed to save coach Mike McDaniel’s job for another week, by overcoming injury and Jets quarterback Justin Fields.

Speedster Tyreek Hill ended his 2025 season with a gruesome knee dislocation in the third quarter.

Fields threw for 226 yards and a score and ran for 81 more and another touchdown to be a one-man highlight reel.
