Wilson Falls; D Bar Stays Undefeated

By Josh Ouellette

(Hacienda Heights)- Wilson’s opening game of the season did not go as planned, as the Wildats fell to Diamond Bar 48-27. The victory by the Brahmas doubled their win total from last year.

DB out scored the Wildcats 21-7 in the second quarter on three touchdown passes. The first came on a perfect loft to the back corner of the end zone by Henry Omana into the arms of Josh Viloria. The next two came from Diamond Bar’s other quarterback Andrew Cameron, who hit his favorite target, George Katrib, on consecutive drives to complete the trio. The score at the half was 24-20.

Wilson stayed in the contest with its pounding ground game led by Moses Vega who accounted for 154 yards and three touchdowns. The last came on the drive following a 36-yard field goal by Brahmas kicker Brian Drulias and ended with an eight yard dash into the end zone with 1:54 left in the third quarter. The score was all tied at 27 after three quarters.

That was the end of Wilson’s luck with the fourth quarter going solely the way of D Bar.

Diamond Bar opened the final quarter with a scoring connection between Cameron and Katrib. With the touchdown deficit the Wildcats started on their own 20 and had the first pass from Wilson quarterback Brandon Schreiman intercepted by Katrib. On their ensuing two possessions Vega fumbled both times.

The Brahmas gave Wilson life again though by fumbling the ball on the Wildcat one-yard line, but their breath was taken away when Schreiman’s pass was picked off and returned to paydirt by Viloria. A botched snap recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by DB ended the scoring.

“We’re just going to take it one game at a time and see where it takes us,” said Diamond Bar Coach John Martin.

And it will take them back home to face Don Lugo next Friday.

Wilson will travel to Los Altos next week in “The Battle for the Wheel.”
