Defense, Underclassmen Lead Titans over Eagles, 35-0

By Ryan Stiles

(San Gabriel)- Visiting San Marino used a strong D and key underclassmen as they dominated Gabrielino 35-0 Friday night.

The Titans started fast, marching down the field on their first drive. Junior Quarterback Garret Glazier was 3 for 3 on the drive, which was capped by an impressive run by junior Kwame Do. The Titans, however, were hindered by penalties until Do took a handoff and sprinted 51-yards through the heart of the Gabby defense to put San Marino up 7-0.

After an interception by Morgan Myers, it was Glazier’s turn. Again hurt by penalties, the Titans face a fourth and 5 from the Eagles’ 12 yard line. Glazier faked a hand-off, stood strong in the pocket after breaking an arm tackle, and hit Sophomore wide-receiver Manny Vargas in the endzone to put the Titans up 21-0 at the half.

The second half was more of the same as the Titans defense forced two turnovers, but the Titan offense struggled with penalties. After an interception by Seve Woods, Glazier turned a fourth and two at the Eagle 11 into an 11 yard touchdown pass to Luke Benuska, who made a nice jumping catch with two defenders draped on him.

The Titans finished the scoring by revealing another of their underclassmen weapons as sophomore Ryan Wood took the first hand-off of his career up the Titan sideline 30 yards for the final score.

The Titans travel to La Salle (0-2) next Friday night.
