Pasadena Rallies to Beat Crescenta Valley

(Pasadena) – Pasadena rallied from a 16-point first half deficit and went on to beat Crescenta Valley 71-61 Tuesday night in Pacific League action at the Dog House.

Crescenta Valley was up 21-11 after the first quarter as Jaxon Boghossian hit a pair of threes and scored 10 points and Dylan Shaghoian also hit one from downtown and added seven as the Falcons moved out to the 10-point advantage.

Crescenta Valley went on a quick 12-6 run to open the second quarter and Pasadena was suddenly staring at a 16-point deficit down 33-17. But as quickly as Pasadena fell behind the Bulldogs jumped right back into it. They outscored the Falcons 16-2 the rest of the quarter to pull within 35-33 at the half.

Kaleb Corner scored six points in the second quarter and Timmy Anderson and Troy Wilson each scored four. Josh Irving, the Bulldogs seven-foot center, did some work inside and also scored four.

Irving got down to business in the third quarter. He scored 11 of the team’s 17 points by dominating the paint. Crescenta Valley, which was red hot early, cooled down considerably in the third. Garen Samuelian came off the bench to knock down a pair of threes to keep the Falcons close but Pasadena went into the fourth quarter up by two.

Anderson went coast to coast for layups three times for the Bulldogs and scored eight points in the fourth quarter. Pasadena hit seven free throws in the final frame and was able to pull away. The Falcons only hit two shots from the floor in the fourth (one a three-pointer) and weren’t able to keep pace.

For Crescenta Valley Shaghoian led all scorers with 28 points including four from three-point land. Boghossian hit five threes and finished with 19.

Irving led the Bulldogs with 24 points, 16 in the second half, and Anderson had 17. Wilson was also in double figures with 11 and Corner added nine.

Pasadena improved to 11-8 overall and 5-1 in the Pacific League with the win. Crescenta Valley fell to 13-6 and 5-1.
