West Covina (1-1) vs. South Hills (1-1) (Covina District Stadium) –

Last Year: South Hills 27-6

Since 2001 South Hills leads series 8-2

The Battle for Cameron Ave takes place much earlier than usual with South Hills in the Sierra League.

Chris Solomon appears to be the go-to back for West Covina after a 273 yard performance against Venice. The Huskies will also try and establish the run with Jamel Hart.

The Bulldogs offensive line keyed the victory against the Gondoliers.

Last Year: Monrovia 27-13

Since 2005 Series tied at 2-2

Myles Carr needs to get the ball to Taylor Legace as much as he can. Legace was huge against St. Francis in the loss. Rodney Arnett needs to find some holes to run through.

The Wildcats need to protect the ball, four turnovers was an uncharacteristic outing in getting beat by Glendora. Nick Bueno had an off-night and will look to redeem himself.

Monrovia 28-14

Bonita (2-0) vs. Santa Fe (1-0) (Pioneer)

Bearcats offense is scary good early in the season with two impressive wins. Chiefs will not only have to contend with Greg Spathias passing, but Reggie Turner’s running.

Running backs by committee for Santa Fe in its opening win against Warren. Justin Rincon got the nod at quarterback.

Bonita 35-21

California (0-1) at La Mirada (0-2)

Last Year: La Mirada 35-20

The Condors were dealt a blow early when Adam Contreras was injured in the loss to Rowland. Justin Dankert will be asked to carry the heavy load at running back.

Shane Blood had the Matadores in position for a comeback win against La Habra only to fall short with three incomplete passes. Max Gama is the go-to guy on offense.

La Mirada 35-14

El Rancho (2-0) at Bell Gardens (0-1)

Last Year: Bell Gardens 17-14

Since 2001 Bell Gardens leads series 7-2

Bell Gardens was thrashed by Azusa. The Dons escaped with a 13-10 win last week against Northview. Troy Campos ran for 73 yards on only nine carries. Josh Lopez caught the game-winning pass from Daniel Moriel.

Josh Adame must deal with a tough ER defense that has only allowed 10 points in two games.

El Rancho 21-14

Norwalk (0-2) at St. Paul (1-0) 7:30pm

The Lancers running game could get a boost if Elijhaa Penny is healthy and regains his 2009 form.

After upsetting La Mirada in Zero Week, the Swordsmen get another Suburban League team. Paul Telles will start at quarterback . Paul Ortega will need to duplicate his run output from Zero Week.

Norwalk 21-14

Muir (1-1) at Bishop Amat (2-0) 7:30pm

Last Year: Bishop Amat 31-7

Already missing critical players, the Mustangs must contend with another physical team in Bishop Amat. If Jeff Davis is unhealthy to go, who replaces him at quarterback? Traveion Yates needs to have a big game.

Jalen Moore had a breakout performance for the Lancers against Dominguez on Friday and Rio Ruiz continues to impress at quarterback.

Bishop Amat 28-7

Rosemead (1-0) at Rowland (2-0)

Mental mistakes can’t happen for the Mead. Matt Fregoso and the offensive line must contain a very athletic Raiders defense. Matt Macias is also a playmaker for the Panthers.

Ervin Crawford is electrifying to watch run the ball for Rowland and Michael Ball can beat you with his ability to stretch a defense with his feet and arm. With Leonardo Freeman out, Danny McMahan has made his mark at receiver.

Rowland 21-17

St. Francis (1-0) vs. Crescenta Valley (1-0) (Glendale)

Last Year: St. Francis 28-21

Since 2001 St. Francis leads series 8-1

The Falcons must contend with Knights passing game led by Brett Nelson. who led St. Francis over Arcadia last week. Good weapons in Travis Talianko and Ian Hamilton at receiver.

Zac Wilkerson threw for four touchdowns in Week One with three of those going to Nick Ruiz. Marro Lee is solid at running back.

St. Francis 35-7

Walnut (1-0) at Claremont (1-1)

If defense wins Championships, then the Mustangs are a step closer to one. Walnut was stymied offensively against Troy and it was Jason Tsukada with three interceptions that helped lead the way in a Week One win. Aubrey Coleman is still the main target for Brandon Roach.

Daniel Kessler was limited to just 227 yards passing in the loss to Bonita. Tanner Kuramata and Aaron Dockery get the bulk of the passes thrown by Kessler.

DR gets an extra day to prepare. Cesar Carillo showed marked improvement and Marquise Cherry had a breakout game to lead the Panthers.

The Tigers use a two back running game with Seth Middlemas and Eric Aegerter.
