Old School Mid Valley Top 12

I’m not typically a week one bridge jumper but I do think a lot can be gleaned from the beginnings of a football season. Sure a team still needs to find its identity, you’re playing out of league, sometimes against teams that are just plain better than you but the Mid Valley Classic clearly established two things, the Knights are good, the Rams are bad. Arcadia lost to St. Francis but does anyone think Arcadia is going to lose this year? We know Myles Carr to Taylor Legace is going to be exciting. There are some big games this week, Monrovia hosts Arcadia, Temple City travels to Alhambra and Arroyo travels to Montebello. Let’s get to it.

.) Arroyo (2-0): Resounding win in the Mid Valley Classic has the Knights in the top spot and boy can Steven Rivera sling it.

.) Arcadia (0-1): Losing to St. Francis isn’t the worst loss a team can have in week one. The Apaches will be a tough customer as usual.

.) Monrovia (0-1): The loss to Glendora will help them in the long run and they face another strong test against Arcadia Friday.

.) Rosemead (1-0): Quarterback Matt Macias will need to do a better job with turnovers, expect the Panthers to ride running back Matt Fregoso as long as his legs will carry them.

.) Mt. View (1-0): View ran 61 plays, 55 of which were rushing. The good news is they gained 338 yards on the ground.

.) El Monte (0-1): They failed to score in the second half but that offense looked pretty good in the first half. Time to see what they can do against a Covina team that’s looking awfully tough.

.) San Gabriel (0-2): They haven’t lived up to the hype.  Expect heavy doses of running back Arthur Brown to get things back on track against Burbank.

.) Gabrielino (1-1): San Marino made them look silly but a 1-1 record is better than what most the bottom half can say.

.) Alhambra (0-2): The Moors are going to have some trouble against good defenses this year, La Canada blew up the line of scrimmage and Alhambra had no answer last week.

.) South El Monte (0-1): What can I say? They got wrecked by San Dimas and have yet to score a point this year.

.) Temple City (0-1): As an alumn this hurts but things can only go up from here and if they can pressure Alhambra like La Canada did last week they could be 1-1 entering week three.

.) Duarte (0-1): I don’t see them giving up the 12 spot any time soon.
