FanView: 9/18/2026

Kick it!

I’m taking the Rams on Monday Night… though I have the advantage of posting another FanView on Monday—before kickoff.

Note: I predicted Buffalo would beat Detroit, 35-17…and with 10:54 to play in the fourth, the Bills led 34-17…and then things got out of hand.

Did you see how good Jared Goff was last night? The throws he made…wow! That’s not sarcasm–Goff was amazing.

And even with all that “Wow,” Goff can’t compare to Buffalo’s Josh Allen.

He needs the rings, but Allen is the 2026 upgrade on John Elway…As Elway was the 1980s upgrade to Bert Jones.

Last Add Allen: I did not have a problem with “O Canada” being performed before our national anthem. Given the proximity, it’s not a big deal or a reason to run hot.

I appreciated it when the camera flashed on Josh Allen, seeing him stand respectfully with his hands behind his back while Canada was honored…And I loved Allen’s display of nationalism when he put a hand over his heart during “The Star-Spangled Banner.

That rocked.

Note to the Barenaked Ladies: Keep to the English lyrics in “O Canada”“God keep our land glorious and free” always works… always moves… always lifts…

Hey, the WNBA is back!

Washington Capitals legend Alex Ovechkin, returning for a 22nd NHL season, appeared in a pro-Putin political ad and is drawing criticism. Latvia has barred him from entering the country…I guess sports and politics don’t just happen here.

Speaking of which, is Colin Kaepernick (back & making the rounds) the new face of desperation?

Is it just hopeful thinking, or do the Arizona Cardinals have a shot at beating the Seattle Seahawks (without San Darnold) at home on Sunday?

Honestly interested in LSU-Ole Miss on Saturday…and, honestly, over the Lane Kiffin return drama. Let’s play the game and get to it.

While this is their Super Bowl season (September-October)…I was surprised to see so many Baltimore Ravens on the injury report… They’ve lost USC’s Ja’Kobi Lane to a fractured wrist…Zay Flowers has a hammy…so, while Marvin Harrison Jr. is wilting away in the Valley of the Sun, they’ve brought in veteran Brandin Cooks for a workout.

Christian McCaffrey in the same breath as Barry Sanders?… So says Colin Cowherd.

I’m going to assume Los Angeles Dodgers fans have reached a point where a National League West title (13th in 14 years) is like Jack In The Box getting the order right when you drive-thru.

#111—May the San Francisco Giants rot and lie stinking in the earth…

It’s surreal to think that NFL Films President & Co-Founder Steve Sabol passed away on this day 14 years ago. As the face of the company, he was always the young guy and came across as having the greatest career ever.

Has anyone thought about how huge the hole would be in our sports experience without NFL Films…and the music that came with it?

When times get tough, things break down, and everything becomes a slog…for some reason — if not scripture — this is what comes to mind because of NFL Films.

“At last this was Bill Kilmer’s kind of game…tough, brawling, rough-hewed, but cruelly effective. Helmet askew, belly protruding, socks sagging around his ankles, Kilmer was once again the spiritual leader of the Redskins.”—From NFL Films highlights of Super Bowl VII

Those lines always inspire me — no matter how non-aesthetic they are — to keep grinding.

The Dude abides…
