(Covina, CA) The Bonita Bearcats and the Northview Vikings clashed in a Sierra League matchup Friday night at Covina Valley District Field and the Bearcats came away with a resounding 45-16 win over the Vikings.
It didn’t take long for Bonita to exert their muscle and experience over a youthful Viking team.
Isaiah Guerrero capped a seven play 77-yard drive with a strike to Matt Milazzo from 13-yards out. Nathan Fidone added the point after and with just under eight minutes showing on the clock the Bearcats led 7-0.
The Viking defense held tight the rest of the way in the first quarter holding Bonita to the lone score.
Early in the second that would change as Guerrero found Joseph Lara in the right flat and Lara did the rest bulling his way into the endzone. With the Fidone extra point the lead was extended to 14-0.
Things went from bad to worse for Northview when Robert Carrasco was picked off by Ace Aguilar at the Viking 35 and returned it to the endzone for a pick six.

Down 21-0 the Vikings showed signs of life marching down to the Bearcat seven yard line. When the drive stalled, Northview’s AJ Aguilar came on to boot through a 25-yard field goal.
A couple of minutes later Bonita extended their lead back to 21 on a 35-yard field goal by Fidone.
As time was winding down and Northview in desperate need of a confidence building drive, the Vikings put together their best drive of the night traveling 72-yards on 11 plays with Carrasco finding Kaleo Estrada in the corner of the endzone for the score.
The point after failed and the Vikings headed to the locker room trailing 24-9
Northview received the ball to start the second half and needed a shot of energy to get some momentum and draw closer to Bonita.
They got just that to open the second half on the first play from scrimmage. Carrasco found Jayden Brown in the crease and the speedy receiver out raced the Bearcat secondary to paydirt to bring the Vikings to within eight.
It was as close as the Vikings would get on the night.
Bonita went on to score 21 unanswered points on a Guerrero pass to Omar Sullivan, a one yard run by Lara (the one yard run was set up by Lara himself on a 57-yard interception return) and a pick six by Trey Harvey to round out the night.
Northview will look to right the ship next week traveling east to take on Colony while Bonita will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive against Ayala at home.
