(Hacienda Heights, CA) The West Covina Bulldogs and the Los Altos Conquerors clashed in the first game of Hacienda League play with the Conquerors coming away with a 41-28 victory Friday night at Los Altos High School.
The first half was all Conquerors as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a 36-yard pass from Luke Rodriguez to Benjamin Cortez and a 97-yard interception return by Joseph Munoz.
The Bulldogs had driven down inside the Los Altos ten and looked like they were going to tie the game but Elias Irvin’s pass was tipped at the line of scrimmage and fell into the hands of Munoz.
All Munoz had to do was avoid Irvin’s tackle and he was off to the races to paydirt.
Los Altos extended their lead to 21-0 on a one-yard run by Nathaniel Sanchez, his first on the night.
Disaster struck again for West Covina with just under six minutes left to play in the half.
Irvin was tackled from behind and coughed up the ball at the Conqueror 40. The loose ball was picked up by Cortez who outraced the Bulldogs to the endzone and his second score of the night.

Things were looking bleak for the Bulldogs who were looking for something positive to build on down 28-0.
A little hope was restored to the West Covina sideline when Jayden Carter capped a four play, 80-yard drive with a one yard plunge.
Down 28-7 the Bulldogs went to work and cut the lead to 28-14 on a 72-yard run from Carter.
Late in the third, the Conquerors extended their lead back to 20 marching 59-yards on 11 plays with Evan Rojas getting the call – this time on an 11-yard run.
Los Altos upped their lead to 41-14 early in the final frame on a 15-yard run by Sanchez, his second of the game.
On the ensuing kickoff, Moses Gogue weaved his way through the Los Altos defenders and down to the Conqueror 16. Two plays later Carter found paydirt for the third time.

A fumbled exchange led to the final score of the evening, Carter’s fourth score, a one-yard run that completed an eight play, 42-yard drive.
Carter finished the night with 196 yards on 23 carries and 4 touchdowns.
On the other side Sanchez rushed for 133-yards and two scores to lead the Conquerors.
Up next for West Covina will be a visit from Diamond Bar while Los Altos hosts South Hills.
