How did Cerritos jump from the lowest league around to the tough Gateway league in one season. Did they go the open enrollment route like La Serna or the on line class route like Ganesha?
@Anonymous Really South Pas belongs in the League 1 mentioned, Arcadia League 2; not sure how Gabrielino would survive League 2; Arcadia is still able to win soundly League 3 despite their recent close games with Hoover in the recent seasons. Arcadia and Gabrielino should switch places honestly
I think these are the New Leagues by conference. Not 100% certain, but I think. Each conference will have 3 different leagues and leagues will change within the conference on a yearly basis based on previous hsratings rankings. I don’t know what the names of the leagues are.
Rio Hondo/Pacific/Gabrielino
League 1: Burbank, La Canada, Monrovia, Muir
League 2: Burroughs, Crescenta Valley, Gabrielino Pasadena, San Marino, South Pasadena
League 3: Arcadia, Glendale, Hoover, Marshall, Temple City
Almont/Mission Valley/El Rancho
League 1: Bell Gardens, El Monte, El Rancho, Schurr
League 2: Alhambra, Montebello, San Gabriel, South El Monte
League 3: Arroyo, Kepple, Mountain View, Rosemead
Gateway/Mid Cities/Del Rio/605
League 1: Cerritos, Downey, La Mirada, La Serna, Mayfair, Warren
League 2: Bellflower, Cal, Gahr Norwalk, Paramount, Santa Fe,
League 3: Artesia, Firebaugh, Glenn, Lynwood, Pioneer, Whittier
hsratings rankings are used to create these leagues. They are very cut and dry. Even though South Pas won the league, La Canada had a higher rating on Calpreps.
@ Yeah Hmm
You forgot Burbank. Burbank ranks higher than South Pas.
You’d have a 5 team league at the top, and with week 10s needed to be open for rivalries, it would become a scheduling nightmare.
@ yeah hmm and RHLfan.
They used Calpreps ranking to set the leagues essentially. Yes it would make sense for South Pas to be in the top tier, but their ranking put them in the second tier. Nothing is a perfect system, and no matter where everyone is placed, there will always be someone with some sort of issue.
Looking at the rankings though, the middle tier will be pretty competitive over all. The top tier is a question with Lance leaving Muir and Burbank losing kids to transfers. The bottom tier will be interesting, and you’ll see some teams with way better records than they’ve had in recent years.
And Burbank also should belong to Arroyo/Top Tier League with Monrovia, John Muir, South Pasadena
Arroyo League ideal: Burbank, John Muir, La Cañada, Monrovia, South Pasadena
Monrovia also may be a better fit for middle tier/Boulder League if not Arroyo: Arcadia, Crescenta Valley, John Burroughs, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Marino
Basically the other is or:
Arroyo League: Burbank, John Muir, La Cañada, South Pasadena
Boulder League: Arcadia, Crescenta Valley, John Burroughs, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Marino
Crest League: Gabrielino, Glendale, Herbert Hoover, Marshall, Temple City
@RHL Fan I agree this is odd how this long overdue releaguing works. Indeed it should be:
Arroyo/Top Tier League: John Muir, South Pasadena, Monrovia, La Cañada
Boulder/Middle Tier: Pasadena, Crescenta Valley, John Burroughs, San Marino, Arcadia
Crest League: Glendale, Herbert Hoover, Gabrielino, Marshall, Temple City
@ Coach and @Anon,
Thank you both for the breakdowns of the new leagues. Still odd to me that SP is in the Boulder League when they are 13-1 in Rio Hondo League play the last 3 years. With 3 consecutive wins over M-Town and 10 consecutive wins over LC. Although I am sure Tiger supporters are probably glad to be in the Boulder League for a better shot at a CIF spot.
Based on the League Schedule, it would seem to indicate that the new Pacific/Rio Hondo League has already figured out the the top tier division. It would seem that top division is Muir, Burbank, Pasadena, Monrovia and La Canada. Interesting as I would have thought that one of the teams from Rio Hondo in the top division would be South Pasadena. They won Rio Hondo the last two seasons going undefeated in league both years beating Monrovia and La Canada. They said when they created this combined league that the divisions would be based on the previous season……

@Coach that was what I meant for my follow up/add-on message to add Burbank into they fray from the February 13 comment at 2:02
A head coach is worth 6 points plus or minus with teams being somewhat equal.

@RHL Fan
The top tier in the Rio Pacific is Muir, Monrovia, La Canada and Burbank.
Pasadena is in the middle tier with Burroughs, Gabrielino, South Pas, CV and San Marino.
They purposely left week 10 open for everyone so rivalry games can be played, with most rivalries being between teams in different tiers
ARROYO LEAGUE= BURBANK, MUIR, MONROVIA, AND LA CANADA
BOULDER LEAGUE= PASADENA, SOUTH PASADENA, CRESCENTA VALLEY, BURROUGHS, SAN MARINO, GABRIELINO
CREST LEAGUE= GLENDALE, HOOVER, TEMPLE CITY, MARSHALL, ARCADIA

3-5 Ws if Pasadena beats them it will be one and done.
5-5…maybe.
Auto losses to Bonita, St. Pius, Newbury Park, and Westlake.
