  1. World Cup Results – Friday July 3: Egypt 1 Australia 1 (Egypt wins 4-2 on penalty kicks); Argentina 3 Cape Verde 2; Columbia 1 Ghana 0.
  2. In Argentina’s win over Cape Verde Lionel Messi scored his record 20th World Cup goal.
  3. The Lakers traded center Deandre Ayton to the Washington Wizards Friday for guard Jaden Hardy and two second-round picks in 2031 and ’32.
  4. The New York Knicks signed center Andre Drummond to a one-year, $3.9 million contract to replace Mitchell Robinson who signed a free-agent contract with the Boston Celtics.
  5. Tari Easson returned to the Houston Rockets on a five-year, $81.5 million deal.

  8. In France’s win over Paraguay on Saturday Kylian Mbappe scored the only goal on a penalty kick. It was his seventh goal of the World Cup tying him with Argentina’s Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot. It was also his 19th goal all-time at the World Cup – one behind Messi.
  9. Aroldis Chapman of the Boston Red Sox became the major league’s career leader in strikeouts as a reliver Friday night in a 5-2 win over the Angels. His strikeout of Denzer Guzman was the 1,364th of Chapman’s 17-year career which broke the record held by Hoyt Wilhelm.
  10. The Dodgers Shohei Ohtani was the leading NL All-Star vote getter. The game will be played July 14 at Citizen’s Bank Park in Philadelphia.
