Rio Hondo Prep won the CIF Division 9 championship last year but they didn’t win the Gold Coast League. That distinction went to Bentwood who went 3-0 in league and 9-3 overall. The Kares only lost two games all year, one those to Brentwood and the other in a State playoff game.

Gano League at a Glance

Don Lugo appears to be the class of the newly formed Gano League. The League, consisting of four teams, is named after the late great head football coach Greg Gano, who was a legend in the San Gabriel Valley. Gano’s last coaching stop was at Don Lugo. The Conquistadores went 5-7 overall last year and won the San Antonio League with a 3-0 record and advanced to the second round of the CIF Division 12 playoffs.

Valle Vista League at a Glance

The Valle Vista League just got better. It was already a tough league. Last year three teams finished tied for first in a four-team league. Now with West Covina and Baldwin Park added to the mix it’s literally a dog fight for all six teams. If you’re Baldwin Park can you imagine having to play West Covina, San Dimas and Diamond Ranch in successive weeks? Or if you’re Alta Loma, who was also added to the league this year, you get Diamand Ranch followed by Northview and San Dimas? Talk about a death march.
