Fischer Shines Like Diamond (See Roddy Layton Video)

(Pomona) – Diamond Ranch turned a tight game into a blow-out with a 21-point outburst in the fourth quarter to defeat Rowland 35-14.

Panther junior running back Andrew Fischer shined on both sides of the ball finishing the night with 85 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns. Fischer also intercepted a pass in the second quarter and help ignite the 21-point fourth quarter with a fumble recovery.

Jacoby Carter and Chase Price both added a touchdown each in the victory for Diamond Ranch.

For three quarters, both defenses dug down deep and held their own against high-powered offenses. Rowland had been averaging a little more than 34 points a game and the Panthers have averaged 32 a game in its previous three games.

The difference was the offensive line of the Panthers which began to show its domination in the fourth quarter.

Jacoby Carter scored from 17 yards out early in the fourth that gave the Panthers a 21-14 lead. Carter closed the night out with 113 yards on 10 carries.

Rowland tried to come right back with Michael Ball finding Danny McMahan on two straight pass attempts. The second completion ended in disaster for the Raiders when McMahan was stripped and Fischer recovered the ball at the Diamond Ranch 34-yard line. Fischer returned it to the Rowland 38-yard line that set up the back-breaking drive.

Panther Head Coach Roddy Layton called on Fischer five of six plays with the end result being a 17-yard touchdown run.

Early on in the game it appeared that Price would have his way against the Raider defense with an impressive score from five-yards out. Price left the game late in the third quarter with an injury, but still had 113 yards on the night.

Ball would help Rowland respond early in the second quarter on a three-yard run to tie the score at seven.

A turnover by the Raiders at 9:30 of the second quarter lead to Fischer’s first touchdown on the evening in Diamond Ranch’s first play from scrimmage at the Rowland 30-yard line.

The teams went into the half tied at 14, thanks in part to Leonardo Freeman’s 45 yard post route touchdown reception from Ball.
