Good Afternoon!

I’ve finally figured out why the Del Rio players always look so big…Its the crown on the field at Whittier District…You need an oxygen tank to walk to the center of that thing.

All things Southmen and Swamp are great…and when it is happening down there it is really happening…It is just not happening this year…Mt. View breaks its curse…

Definition of “under the radar”? Burroughs has won four straight in the Pacific League after dropping three in its non-league season.

Lucas Yanez might be playing the best ball of this prep career…The Indians are going to have to rely heavily on the three year starter to get past Crescenta Valley, Muir, and Burbank…

***

Will the Pacific title come down to the Hill People and Flatlanders again? Absolutely.

Okay…La Serna is for real… Besides quarterback Andrew Buenrostro’s excellent performance, Lancer wide receiver Andrew “I’m Always Open” Rosales was amazing.

These guys are ready for a bump in the rankings…and poised for a very good seed in the coming playoffs.

Last Add Santa Fe: With so much on the line last night…and a history of great support…I was surprised by the low turnout for the Chiefs. It was good crowd for 75% of the others schools in the Southeast, but the Chiefs Nation has set the bar very high.

“It was a lick!” Was how Mid Valley wordsmith Tim Peterson described the blasting Baldwin Park’s Mario Rodriguez delivered to Covina quarterback Billy Livingston…The hit, clean, ended the Colt triggerman’s night.

Peterson also declared he is now president of the Vinny Venegas Fan Club

“I don’t want to be anything other than what I’ve been trying to be lately…”

On this evening in 1999 Monrovia quarterback Ryan O’Hara went 34-yards to Chris Johnson (not that Chris Johnson) in the third quarter to help the Wildcats to a 13-0 victory over Temple City.  M-Town kicker Seth Lewis added field goals of 41 and 42 yards.

On this date in 1976 La Mirada beat Schurr 7-2 in a Mission Valley League game…SAY WHAT!… I said the Matadores beat the Spartans in a Mission Valley League game…(More to come…)

On the same evening current scrimmage pals Temple City and El Monte met at North Field for the first, and only, time in history… It didn’t go well for the old alma mater…

The Rams got excellent play out of back from injury (busted collar bone) quarterback Don Stockham and his replacement, sophomore, Bill Kirkpatrick to roll TC to a 61-7 victory…Don Roberts scored three touchdowns (58-yard punt return, 19-yard pass reception, and a 42-yard run) while Mike Sharp, Marty Dattola, and Rob Voors added sixes in the rout…The Lions lone touchdown came in the first quarter on Steve Polly’s 38-yard interception return…This was a Rio Hondo league game.

Same night, Robbie Chapman rushed for 92-yards and three touchdowns in South Pasadena’s 23-0 win over Duarte. The victory was the Tigers 17th in a row…Monrovia beat Arroyo 29-6, thanks to James DeCuir’s 126 rushings yards and three touchdowns.

***

On this night in 1971 Maranatha running back Don Mayberry scored six touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as the Minutemen fell to San Fernando Christian 51-43…Don’t ask me where it was played, it was a game of six-man football…SAY WHAT!… I said it was six man football…

For what it’s worth on the same night, in West Covina, the Spartans defeated La Puente 34-14 thanks to the passing of quarterback Steve Myer (13-21-136yds 2Tds)… WestCo did not become the Bulldogs until its merger with the late Edgewood High School in the 1980’s.

Stay thirsty my friends…
