Joe Torosian

Good Evening!

Talked to Rosemead’s Matt Koffler. Asked him the tough question and…he still wouldn’t tell me it if it was going to be Matt Macias or Paul Cruz at quarterback tomorrow night against Temple City.

I tried.

***

Has anyone been as pro-Maranatha as I have this season? Oh sure, Villathedevil and everyone else has come along for the ride…but I’ve been singing the praises of the Minutemen since making the drive to Big Bear on Labor Day weekend…

***

Note to Murph: You need to rethink the Labor Day weekend match with Big Bear going forward.

***

Last Add Maranatha: So, let me make clear, while I do think Maranatha is a very good team…I do believe they are primed for an upset at the hands of La Puente.

True, the Warriors don’t have enough weapons but they are well coached. More importantly few teams in the playoffs have had the emotional ride the Minutemen have. Close losses, close wins, five overtime affairs, this team could be exhausted. Plus not having Chris Cornell hurts.

***

If Monrovia was trying to stay under the radar, Ellis McCarthy being offered a scholarship by UCLA sort of blew that plan out of the water.

I’m willing to give M-Town a tenth try in the finals before doing a serious investigation to find a curse…

Speaking of curses…for the Wildcats, maybe it begins with “Little Comma”…

***

We do a lot of “Mid Minutes” with a lot of different coaches and players…but its ironic Villathedevil’s interview with Buena Park HC Anthony White has become one of the most popular.

***

This was supposed to be mentioned a week or so ago but…A season of hell for San Marino did have a bright spot. The junior varsity team, HC’d by former Temple City QB Riley Saxon, went undefeated in league play and won the Rio Hondo title.

***

His Arroyo Baldness, win or lose, is not somebody I want to be talking to on Friday night.

***

I have a feeling about Walnut against La Serna…I don’t know if it’s really a football feeling or something I ate…Not sure…

***

In the “I love you honey, but I just can’t smile” department: I just can’t see Schurr beating Baldwin Park. I know the Spartans have had some nice runs after The Mid has picked against them but they are not playing good football right now.

***

Amazing how well the “Just Joshing” column does when Omelette sticks to football and avoids soccer…

***

Maybe CIF should put together a four team version of the NIT. After the playoff pairings are set…take the next four teams with the best record and have them play on back to back Tuesdays. In the Mid-Valley (off the top of my head) you’d take Sierra Vista, San Gabriel, South Pas, and Mt. View…

They extend their seasons…CIF makes some more revenue at the gate…we get more football…I think its a win-win…

***

Of course it would be dependant on La Serna making a deep run, but would it be reasonable for me to make an argument for the Lancers’ Andrew Rosales as Southeast MVP?

Catching the ball, defending receivers, tackling, Rosales has had a fantistic season.

***

If Azusa should lose to Village Christian would it be fair to say the Aztecs got Hosed?

***

Unfortunately for Gladstone while its not a long bus ride to Morro Bay, it is a short trip to M-Town and the offseason.

***

Breaking News: Skip Piccou has stepped down at West El Monte Poly…The Blazers went 0-10 this season and school Athletic Director Chris Fulton has said taking the football program to a higher level is a priority. Interviews begin in January.

***

Note to Bill Zernickow: When you focus on getting to Arroyo’s Steven Rivera and shutting down Anthony Miller…remember Hunter Duran is still out there and all he does is score touchdowns.

Stay thirsty my friends…
