(Norwalk) Richard Alvarez’s three rushing touchdowns led La Serna to a 28-21 win over Norwalk Friday night at Excelsior Adult School in the quarterfinals of the Southeast Division playoffs.
La Serna got on the board with first possession on an 11-play drive that was capped off with a 3-yard touchdown run by Richard Alvarez to make it 7-0 after the extra point.
Norwalk pounded the ball down field with Andrew Thompson, Elijhaa Penny and finishing it off with Billy Moore’s 3-yard touchdown run to tie the game up at 7-7.
Alvarez scored on runs of 10 and 4-yards to give La Serna a 21-7 halftime lead.
Penny found his way in the end zone midway through the third quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run to cut into La Serna’s lead and make it 21-14.
La Serna took the 14-point lead back when quarterback Andrew Buenrostro found Andrew Rosales from 27-yards out to make it 28-14 after three quarters of play.
After both teams stuffed each other early in the fourth quarter, Norwalk drove the ball 85-yard field on the arm of quarterback Adrian Diaz and capped it off with Penny to make it 28-21. Norwalk tried the onside kick but failed.
Diaz finished the night going 5 of 8 for 118-yards, Penny finished the night with 94-yards and his two scores, and Moore had 44-yards and a touchdown for Norwalk. Buenrostro went 8 of 15 for 149-yards and a touchdown pass, Alvarez had his three scores on 44-yards, and Rosales had 70-yards receiving a touchdown.
La Serna will face Bonita in the semifinals and Norwalk finishes its season 7-5.
