- The Cincinnati Reds signed All-Star right-hander Chase Burns to a seven-year, $105 million contract extension.
- Spain will face Argentina Sunday in the World Cup Final. France will play England Saturday in the Third Place game.
- England’s Jude Bellingham slapped Argentina player Valentin Barco in the back of the head after their loss in the Semi-Finals. Bellingham could face action and a possible suspension from the FIFA’s disciplinary committee.
- Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat will not be punished by the NBA for hitting former teammate Tyler Herro last Friday in a Las Vegas gym.
- The LA Galaxy will face LAFC Friday night in El Trafico at Dignity Health Sports Park. LAFC is in sixth place in the Western Conference with 24 points coming in while the Galaxy is 10th with 20.
- The NBA is investigating a four-year, $64 million deal between Gary Trent Jr. and the Milwaukee Bucks for possible salary cap circumvention.
- Jonas Valanciunas, who has played the last 14 years in the NBA, is returning to Europe to play in the EuroLeague. Valanciunas averaged 8.5 points and 5.1 rebounds for the Denver Nuggets last season before being waived.
- Charlie Steiner, longtime sportscaster and current Dodgers announcer, turns 77 today.
- The Mission Viejo passing tournament is this Saturday at Mission Viejo High School. In addition to Mission Viejo the tournament features schools such as Mater Dei, Sierra Canyon, Crean Lutheran, La Habra, Chino Hills and El Dorado. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
- Aziel Zacapala, a football player at Rosemead High School who was just 15 years old, was stabbed to death last Friday in El Monte. Zacapala was set to enter his sophomore year.
