On The Couch: June 4, 2009

Howdy Y’all.

Tonight is when all the Laker fans become stressed after Orlando wins Game One.

It is not that I am a Laker hater, its that I see how they decide when to turn on intensity.

Besides who actually believes Kobe when he says it doesn’t matter about winning a title without Shaq he was so convincing.  He might of come off a little more believable if he didn’t mention that O’Neal couldn’t have won those Championships without him.

That might actually be very true.  If it wasn’t for Dwayne Wade the Big Shaqtus would not have won one in Miami.

This series will go six agonizing games with the Lakers winning their 30th title.

The Stanley Cup playoffs are now a series.  It took home ice and veteran leadership by Sergei Gonchar to chip into that Detroit Redwings 2-0 series lead against Pittsburgh.

On Tuesday’s show we mentioned that the Redwings should be on the same plane as the Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, and Pittsburgh Penguins who consistently won Stanley Cups in successive years.   For once Joe Torosian was actually right.

U.S. National Team went into Costa Rica and were throttled 3-1 last night.

It really wasn’t a surprise when you figure they were 0-6-1 heading into the World Cup Qualifier at Costa Rica.

What was surprising was the way they lost, goalkeeper Tim Howard played his best season in the Premiership and gave up a goal 79 seconds into the game.

Also, U.S. Coach Bob Bradley’s decision to experiment with two new fullbacks and a 4-4-3 formation instead of his usual 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 really was a key.

U.S. now faces a must win against gritty Honduras in Chicago on Saturday.

See you tomorrow.
