High School Girls Basketball Top 25

Its Tournament time around the San Gabriel Valley with most teams entered in the following weeks.Tournaments to focus on this week are Azusa, Covina, Duarte and Poly with finals on Friday or Saturday. As for the Top 25, some changes in the Top 10 and newcomers in St. Lucy’s, Arcadia, Whittier Christian and Wilson.

1. Bishop Amat (2-0) – Begin the season where they left off with stellar defense.

2. Diamond Ranch (1-1) – Tough schedule enough to move them up to second even with a loss.

3. Bonita (1-0) – Bearcats are already scoring in bunches with 70 against San Dimas.

4. Poly (1-0) – Michelle Miller scores 36 in opener, now Tigers set sights on own tournament.

5. Muir (2-2) – Tough tournament schedule may prove dividends to youngsters.

6. Crescenta Valley (3-1) – Team effort leads to third place in Falcon Tournament.

7. Walnut (2-1) – Loose to eventual Wilson Lady Wildcat champ Sonora.

8. Burroughs (4-0) – Great start for Indians who won the Valencia High Five tournament.

9. Santa Fe (3-1) – Chiefs get off to a good start with strong showing in Downey Tournament.

10. La Salle (3-1) – Lancers nearly start season with Lady Wildcat Tournament title.

11. Sierra Vista (1-0) – New era begins with Francisco Juarez calling the shots for Dons.

12. Schurr (1-1) – Kiana Kayoda averaging 14 points a game for Spartans.

13. West Covina (2-1) – Could meet Bishop Amat in semi-finals of Covina Classic.

14. San Marino (3-1) – Titans start season with promising run.

15. Mayfair (0-4) – Really rough stretch playing teams that went a combined 12-6 to start the season.

16. Duarte (2-0) – Defense shuts down Mountain View and Charter Oak in wins.

17. Alhambra (1-3) – Rough start for team with high goals.

18. Covina (2-2) – Ashli Baddorf off to a hot start with 15 points per game.

19. Northview (1-0) – Cassie Ramirez scores 16 points in win over South Hills.

20. Whittier Christian (3-1) – Home cooking for Heralds does them some good.

21. Wilson (3-1) – Kelli Calton has 10 rebounds and three steals average for Wildcats.

22. La Canada (1-1) – Slow start for Spartans isn’t a surprise.

23. Arcadia (1-0) – Apaches just shut down Glendora quite easily.

24. St. Lucy’s (2-0) – Regents upset West Covina by four.

25. Keppel (2-0) – Aztecs look to retake Almont league.
