Kim Nevarez was strong on defense to help the Bulldogs.
(Covina) – A 16-0 run to end the first quarter was all West Covina needed to begin the Covina Christmas Classic on a winning note by defeating Alta Loma, 68-38
Nat Lim scored 15 of her game high 18 points for the Bulldogs and poured in four three-pointers.
West Covina’s defense created turnovers with Amber Delrea making the most of her opportunities with a steal and score with 4:21 to play in the second quarter to stop a 6-0 Alta Loma run.
The Bulldogs also didn’t allow a field goal in the first quarter as they watched the Braves shoot 18% in the first half.
Leilani Mamea shined brightly for Alta Loma with 18 points to lead the team.
Second half didn’t get any better for the Braves with West Covina continuing it hot-shooting in the third quarter. The Bulldogs went on an 11-0 run midway through the quarter to open up a 31-point lead.
Alta Loma made one last run with less than three minutes remaining outscoring West Covina 13-4 to cut the lead to 15 before Delrea scored the final five points of the game.
