(Covina) – West Covina ran out to a 10-4 lead to start the game but was held to 14 points the remainder of the game in a quarterfinal loss to Roosevelt (Corona) in the Covina Christmas Classic.
After a slow start, the Mustangs couldn’t miss a basket going six of ten from behind the arc in the 74-24 win over the Bulldogs.
As much as everything went right for Roosevelt, the opposite could be said for West Covina who didn’t execute in any facet of the game and closed the game shooting just 25% from the field.
Jasmine Flannigan scored 21 points and Alexus Strong added 16 points for the Mustangs. Together they dismantled the Bulldogs defensively finding open shots all evening.
West Covina also didn’t help itself with costly turnovers and long stretches in which they couldn’t get a shot off.
Nat Lim led the Bulldogs with eight points, five coming in the first quarter.
The momentum changed after Vanessa Rios put West Covina up by six in the first quarter. The Mustangs called a time out and after that went on a 39-7 run to end the half.
Roosevelt now faces Bishop Amat in the semi-finals on Friday evening.
