[El Monte] – The Vikings kept their hot start going with a 42-34 win over Pioneer Wednesday night at Mountain View High School.

The teams started off with a 7-7 tie after one quarter of play. The Vikings found some scoring in the second quarter with two 3-pointers by Jonathan Benitez.

With a 21-13 lead going in to halftime Mountain View came out slow in the second half and Pioneer was able to tie 23-23 with a Josh Fitten 3-pointer, but View took the lead back with seven straight points led by Erick Martinez and Jeremy Acosta.

The Vikings never gave up the lead after that with good ball control by Joseph Angelo and rebounding by Martinez.

Pioneer’s Hector Rios kept them close the whole game finishing with 15 points and 5 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough.

Martinez finished with 12 points for the Vikings while Angelo chipped in with 8 points of his own.

Mountain View improved to 12-3 and plays their last pre season game Friday at home against San Gabriel, while the Titans fall to 7-10 and start league play against Santa Fe.
