(San Marino) – Emma Wong stole Kristene Hossepian’s inbound pass with sixteen seconds remaining, took two dribbles and buried a three-pointer from the left arc to lead San Marino to a 52-50 win over La Canada.

For the Titans it was the second time this season that it managed to defeat the Spartans. Both teams are now 1-1 in league.

The loss for La Canada was its first in the Rio Hondo since 2008-09 basketball Season.

Early in the fourth quarter San Marino let its nine point lead slip away after the Spartans valiantly battled back and took the lead on Hossepian’s lay-up with 3:27 remaining.

The Titans made the most of its opportunity from the free-throw line scoring nine of its 14 points in the fourth quarter to stay within striking distance late in the game.

Christine Law led San Marino with a game-high 17 points with nine coming in the third quarter.

The final two minutes saw La Canada take a four point lead on the heels of Alexa Barsamian’s rebound and score to make the score 48-44.

The Spartans also were its worst enemy down the stretch missing crucial free-throws in the final minute and half.

With 36 seconds remaining, Remi Kohno hit both of her free-throws to give the Titans the lead at 49-48.

La Canada’s Courtney Chen made two shots from the charity stripe to give the lead back to the Spartans with less than 34 seconds to play.

Two straight turnovers from San Marino were not capitalized by La Canada which allowed Wong to hit the game-winner.

Chen made a final heave at the buzzer but it went wide of the basket.

Chen and Sydney Zarate each had 14 points for the Spartans.
