Mid Valley Draft: Quarterbacks

Who is number one? Schurr's Aaron Cantu or...

*** Draft Day: Tuesday, February 8th 2011 ***

...Bonita's Garrett Pendleton?

The Mid Valley Draft is an exercise where staff/readers adopt NFL teams and then proceed to meet their personnel needs by drafting local players out of the Mid-Valley & Southeast Divisions.

Over the next week Mid Valley Sports will analyze positions and players to see who fits best where, who has first round potential, and who may have value in the later rounds.

At the bottom of this page is a listing of those who have already adopted a team. If you would like to pick one of the remaining NFL teams and be part of this process add it to the comment box below. Be sure to have correct/legit contact information because you will be sending us your picks on the night of the draft.

Top 15 Quarterbacks

Who you gonna take first? Cantu or Pendleton?

1.) Garrett Pendleton, Bonita-SR: Came back from an injury and set the world on fire, guiding his team all the way to the finals. The arm, the size, the instincts, the only thing he may (may) lack is a full season, from start to finish, under his belt. Whiff on him and you’ll pay dearly.

1.) Aaron Cantu,Shurr-SR: A definite number one pick. Not just the numbers and the size, but all the mechanics. Has done it for two consecutive years and is ready to pay dividends for a team in need.

3.) Andrew Buenrostro, La Serna-SR: Was not on anyone’s radar coming into 2010, (and off the draft board coming out of 2009) but a great off season translated into a superior senior year. Not as polished as Cantu and Pendleton, but a playmaker. Number one for charisma alone.

4.) Steven Rivera, Arroyo-JR: Take him. Usually we discourage the drafting of underclassmen, but Rivera is a three-year starter who makes all the throws and leads. Mobile southpaw leads. First round.

5.) Conor Bednarski, South Pasadena-SR: First round pick? Yes. What hurts him? Not a lot of stats but the right numbers when it comes to height, arm, smarts, mobility…Draft him in the first round for your team and score big points in review. Good fit for the Colts who need to start thinking about life after Manning.

6.) Evan Hunko, Mayfair-SR: What a value pick he would be. Could go late in the first or slip into the third round after initial quarterback run. Has all the stuff, but comes from a program where they didn’t throw the ball.

7.) Adam Colman, Burbank-SR: Tall, play maker, who has 43 touchdowns to his credit against only 10 interceptions. Probably suffered a little bit 2010 with a new receiving corps. Excels at making something out of nothing.

8.) Stephen Anderson, Whittier Christian-SR: Might be dismissed by some because of size, but has an excellent arm, is mobile, and runs the no huddle. We’re not talking Erik Wilhelm here, this guy can play.

9.) Josh Adame, Bell Gardens-SR: Like all BG players, Adame suffers from being so far down the 710…Plus the Lancers have traditionally been a running team. Adame’s got size, smarts, arm…a first round talent you might be able to pick up in a later round.

10.) Myles Carr, Arcadia-JR: You’ll take a hit drafting an underclassman too high and even though he’s only started one season this Apache has it all.

11.) Billy Livingston, Covina-JR: Like meteor this guy came on during the off season and his stock continued to rise as he led his team to a Valle Vista crown. Is he ready for this year’s draft?

12.) Nick Bueno, Monrovia-SR: Last year we listed him as a player looking at a position change, maybe now perception needs to change. Lacks size, but not arm. Three semifinals appearances, two finals, and a title. Plus he punts. Worth and investment.

13.) Shane Blood, La Mirada-SR: Linebacker or quarterback? You make the call. How you view him will determine where you draft him.

14.) Michael Ball, Rowland-SR: Tough 2010 for the Raiders effects stock. Good quarterback, number one in all the preseason polls, but a lot of folks see him as a safety. ???

15.) Lucas Yanez, Burroughs-SR: Proved he could make plays and run the offensive on his own. Engineered epic comeback against Burbank in regular season finale. Guys in the office see him as a DB… Release J.T. Sullivan and take this guy in the fourth round.

Next Five

16.) Brandon Roach, Walnut-SR: Tougher than the proverbial two-dollar steak.

17.) Kyle Custer, Village Christian-SR: More athlete than quarterback?

18.) Andrew Elfers, Maranatha-SOPH: We dare you.

19.) Henry Omana, Diamond Bar-JR: We double dare you.

20.) George Johnson, West Covina-SR: Did he get enough throws in at WestCo to play quarterback. He sure got in enough hits to play linebacker.
