El Camino (Oceanside) 68 La Canada 59 – Fairfax State Preview Classic

Spartans cut it to four with 3:13 to play on Mason Holle’s bucket-and one but El Camino’s dominant post play rose to the occasion down the stretch despite a 28-3 free throw swing in LC’s favor. McGlashan dropped 25 for LC. The Wildcats have advanced to the State playoffs the last three years, winning the San Diego division championship once and finishing runner-up twice.

Mission Valley

Gabrielino 65 Arroyo 59

Mark Roche had team high 18 and Sam “Red” Torres mustered a terrific 16 point, 20 rebound game for Arroyo who fell to Gabrielino in overtime. Tyler Shimamoto created havoc upon the Knights on both ends with game high 24 points, 6 steals, and 5 assists. Ryan Lam scored 18, caromed 11, and was 4 dishes (6) short of a triple double. Aron Castrellon added another 5 assists. Both teams were miserable from the free throw line and combined for a whopping 28 misses.

Mountain View 45 South El Monte 44

MV nipped South in a game that was narrow from tipoff to final buzzer. The Southmen were led by Anthony Villacis who hit 3 of 4 from downtown towards 14 points and notched a block, steal, and two assists. Christian Servin grabbed 10 rebounds.

Rosemead 53 El Monte 45

Panthers had perfect storm in third go their way to helped them overcome El Monte in comeback win and end an 8 game skid. Danny Villalobos went wild for ‘Mead scoring 22 and taking down 19 boards. Also making it happen for RHS were Tim Tsai and Jonathan Ly who each had five assists. John Yang (19 points 7 rebounds) and Leo Olvera (11 points 10 rebounds) led the Lions’ roar.

Arroyo 52 El Monte 31

Knights ran away in the second and third to stay in the MVL hunt. Sam “Red” Torres continued to pile it up with 13 rebounds and scored 12 along with Mark Roche and Sam Aholoka, who hit four treys in the game.

South El Monte 82 Rosemead 39

South rebounded from a tough loss with lopsided decimation of ‘Mead. Anthony (AJ) Jimenez finished with Kobe-like numbers as he dazzled the Southmen crowd with 37 points, featuring 9 three pointers, a block, 3 steals, and 3 dishes.

The night belonged to high flying Pasadena guard John John Haywood scoring 19 on 9 for 11 field goals. Bulldogs outrebound Apaches 20-6 in second half where they shook loose, expanded upon 7 point halftime lead and held high scoring  Kiran Koneru to just six points all night, without any threes. Taylor Lagace kept Arcadia within striking position early and went to work in the paint (9 rebounds) while also showing off his smooth jumper for a trio of treys before finishing with 15 points.

The Stangs buried Burroughs beneath a 30 point halftime anvil and DeShawn “Helicopter” Hayes hit seven threes towards 34 points with four steals.

M-Town lost another tough one in the gym despite a huge game from Jay Henderson (26 points). Blair took advantage of the Cats’ getting in foul trouble early in the fourth to rally from nine point deficit.
