Arellanes Out at Los Altos

Jim Arellanes out after one year at Los Altos

(Hacienda Heights) – Jim Arellanes has been relieved of his duties as football coach at Los Altos after just one season at the helm. Los Altos finished 0-10 in 2010.

Arellanes left Northview after the 2009 season and took over at Los Altos replacing Felipe Aguilar who coached the Conquerors for just two seasons.

Despite the disappointing season, Arellanes’ dismissal was surprising.

“I had met with the principal and the athletic director three times since the end of the season. It was unexpected,” Arellanes said.

Los Altos AD Steve Garcia insisted the decision was not solely based on Los Altos record last year.

“It definitely was not based on wins and losses. If it was you would have probably seen a coaching change on November 11,” Garcia said in a statement. “More than anything else it’s a difference in philosophies in where we needed to be and how we needed to get there.”

Arellanes hopes to be coaching and teaching again in the area next year.

“I’ll be teaching at Los Altos until the school year ends. I’m going to start looking now,” Arellanes said.

Arellanes has played quarterback at the college level (Fresno State) and the professional level (Rhein Fire, World League Europe) after playing for El Rancho High School.

And for the third time in the last four years Los Altos is looking for a new football coach.
