Taylor Anderson helped lead the way for Bonita.

(La Verne) – Bonita took the lead early in the second quarter and never looked back in its first round victory over Palm Springs, 71-38.

After having six days off, the Bearcats needed a full quarter to get back into the flow of its offense with a 11-0 run in the first four minutes of the second quarter to open up a 25-16 lead after Taylor Anderson went coast-to-coast to score two of her 16 points.

Madison Zylstra poured in a game-high 20 points to help lead the offensive attack for Bonita.

Zylstra and Anderson were helped on the offensive end in the second quarter by Natalie Reyes. A surprise spot-start for Reyes led to seven points in the half.

Early on it appeared that Palm Springs may pose a problem for Bonita with Ashley Westhem’s three-point shooting ability. But after Westhem’s six points from beyond the three-point line, she would only manage four more points the remainder of the game.

The vaunted Bearcat defense suffocated the Indians the remainder of the game by allowing only 25 points in the final three quarters. Palm Springs only managed just nine field-goals from the start of the second quarter to the final buzzer.

The final quarter for Bonita saw the bench come in to allow the starters a chance to rest before its Second Round game against the winner of Jurupa Valley-Citrus Valley first round game.
