Tartans Take San Dimas Classic

Carly Argyle struck out eight in Glendora's win.

(San Dimas) – Glendora took the San Dimas Classic Championship by scoring four runs in two innings enroute to an 8-3 win over Northview Saturday.

The Tartans took advantage of a great hitting performance from first baseman Taylor Langdon to catapult it to the title.

Langdon finished the game 3 for 3 with two singles and a triple. She also had two runs batted in and scored a run in the victory.

It took Glendora to get its bats going after two scoreless innings thrown by freshman pitcher Ana Mejia. It broke through after Langdon hit an innocent single to left-field that turned into a two-base error after the leftfielder misplayed the ball. Laura Ampudia then singled to score Langdon.

The hit barrage continued with Sarah Glenn and Kendra Alfonso singling to have runners on first and second with one out. Alfonso scored Ampudia to make it 2-0. Brandi Wilson and Carly Argyle each provided a knock with two outs to score the Alfonso and Glenn.

As Mejia struggled, Argyle cruised through three innings before walking Mercedes Menchaca, then giving up a triple to Suzette Ortega to score Menchaca.

Eight batters came to the plate in the fifth inning for the Tartans which scored four more runs in the inning. After Alfonso singled, Audrie Becerra hit into a force-out to make the first out. Wilson singled to set the stage for Argyle with first and second. Argyle hit a smash to short that ate up Sarina Jaramillo loading the bases for Stephanie Froussine. She promptly grounded out to Jaramillo to score Becerra. Langdon would then clear the bases with a triple to give Glendora a six run lead. Ampudia’s second single of the night scored Langdon.

The Vikings made one final attempt to get back in the game in the sixth inning with Erinn Jaramillo drawing a walk. Sarina singled to give Northview first and third with one out. Samantha Martinez’s second hit of the night scored both Jaramillo’s to cut the lead to five.

Arglye closed the game out when Erinn popped out to short to end the game.

Mejia took the loss against the Tartans.
