The lockout is upon us and I wish it was actually the rapture. In reality if there is no season it will feel as if the rapture is upon us. A NFL lockout leads to an NBA lockout and before we know it the two largest forums in the American entertainment industry aren’t functioning anymore.

A lockout could ruin the NFL for years. Note to the owners and players: Don’t follow the model of the MLB. Look what a lockout did to baseball.

Owners should have the right to do the owning, and players have the right to get paid. Finding a common ground on that shouldn’t be too hard. Sure there are other intangibles but it should never have even gotten to this point. I blame greed. And George Atallah.

At least we all know one thing to be true. There will be a high school football season. I can look forward to that at least.

Mid-Valley Sports got some video on Whittier Christian senior to be Ryan Wallace. Wallace is a 6’4” 250 pound center for the Heralds and will be a prominent piece on next year’s team.

In watching Wallace’s film I noticed he finishes his blocks by keeping up his leg drive. Wallace gets off the ball extremely well too, getting the initial contact on most of the plays on the film. What I found really impressive was the way Wallace handled both the shotgun and under the center plays. A center who can do both successfully is on the right track.

In one of the last plays in the highlight film, it shows Wallace with a solid one-on-one block against Ellis McCarthy in the Mid-Valley Division Championship game.

Also, Wallace was a First Team All-Olympic League and All-CIF Mid-Valley Division player as a junior. With some work in the weight room and time spent on his footwork Wallace has the potential to be the best center in the area, if not the best offensive lineman period.

Speaking of McCarthy, is there a Mid-Valley Division player you are looking forward to watching more than him? I know for me there isn’t. I would love to see a Wallace vs. McCarthy moment next season.

I am also looking forward to seeing Covina play next season. The Billy Livingston to Vinny Venegas combination was great last year. This year it’s going to be even better.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
