Joe Torosian

Good Morning!

For what its worth, I liked the NCAA Tournament coverage this year…Just keep me away from Jim Nantz…yamma hamma…its fright night to listen to that guy…He’s a headache unlike any other…

***

And for the record, the other day when I said “Go Butler”…I of course meant El Monte American and District 18 “Volunteer of the Year” Bob Butler.

***

First Add MVL: Does the league have a feature running back?

Mt. View’s Jose Zamora is the returning rushing leader for the league. The junior-to-be gained 563 yards in 2010 and scored five touchdowns.

In the Vikings double-wing, he should be “The Guy” this year.

***

While Arroyo’s Steven Rivera is the best quarterback returning in the Mission Valley League, the next best is El Monte’s Manuel Santa Cruz.

The Lions have beef on the offensive line (Jesse Gaytan) and a resident bad dude in Ruben Jimenez.

Before you hand the MVL to either Arroyo or Rosemead, consider EM.

That’s a consideration not a prediction.

***

Then again all Hunter Duran does for Arroyo is score touchdowns.

***

Speaking of receivers, keep an eye on Whittier Christian wide receiver Cody Bronkar…The problem facing Heralds HC Sergio Gradilla is at quarterback. Stephen Anderson was a three year starter and unless the Bengals make Carson Palmer available there could be struggle under center.

***

You can take the kick-off out of football, you can change all the rules to make it safe, but in the process you may need to purchase sets of flags to strap around players waists and figure out a way to survive without any network or advertising money.

Because it sure won’t be the NFL anymore.

***

Okay, the Knicks are done…So are the Spurs without The Big Fundamental.

A lot of people in Illinois are happy about Bruce Pearl being fired at Tennessee.

…This of course makes Pearl an excellent candidate for a job at USC.

***

Have I mentioned that I like Covina this fall?

***

The slam dunk bores me.

***

Hines Ward seems very concerned about the lockout, and very much over the Steelers Super Bowl loss to the Packers.

***

Nine days until Opening Day…Let’s get all excited and go to a yawning festival.

***

I wasn’t sad to see Drew Hill leave the Rams to Houston all those years ago, but I was sad to hear about his passing a few days ago.

***

Last Add Hill: In 1979 the Rams drafted offensive lineman Kent Hill (Georgia Tech) with its second first round pick, running back Eddie Hill (Memphis), and wide receiver Drew Hill (Georgia Tech).

Kent Hill became an All Pro guard and was eventually traded to the Houston Oilers as part of the Jim Everett deal. Eddie Hill was a second round bust. Drew of course flourished for the Oilers long after the Rams made him a 12th round selection.

***

I’m still being told; Pomona…

***

After one too many Mel Kiper Jr. jokes, I’ve cut my hair.

Stay thirsty my friends…
