In The Circle

La Salle's Madison Worley began using the Infielders Mask this season.

The season begins its stretch run with teams in crucial must-win situations will break down some of the teams that are on the outside looking in.

SAFETY FIRST

This is the first season most players are wearing the Infielders Mask.

My feeling after reading reports is that it should be mandated for all players at the corner and pitcher.

Speaking to parents two comments were high on the list for the reason they should have it.

First is obviously the safety reason in which the player who may have suffered a broken nose/jaw with a line drive may only have soreness.

The other comment from parents was the ability to give the player more confidence from “hot shots” down the line or at them.

Best one on the market appears to be from Rip It Sporting Goods. But as always do your own research.

COMMITMENTS OR NOT?

Emily Seidel has committed to University Of Nevada. The Village Christian senior pitcher continues to strike out opposing batters and has amassed 645 strike outs in three seasons. She has compiled a 38-15 record and has hit six homers and 65 RBIs.

Los Altos junior Mariah Midyette verbally committed to Bucknell. Midyette is a three-year varsity player and plays with the Velocity travel team.

Biggest question is where will Alexis Watanabe be heading? The San Marino junior is the spark plug for the Titan offense in her three seasons batting over .350 each season. On a team that values runs Watanabe has 26 RBIs and two home runs while being pitched around.

IT’S A RACE!

The Del Rey League title maybe decided after a two-game set with St. Joseph’s and Bishop Amat.

If either team can sweep then they will have at least a two-game lead with four to play.

La Salle needs to win out and get some help to head to the playoffs.

Sierra League is a scramble with Charter Oak, South Hills and St. Lucy’s battling for three spots in a six team league.

The Huskies (5-2) have the best chance being tied with Chino Hills for first. The Regents (4-4) got a big win last week with a win over South Hills to help its shot at playoff spot and the Chargers (2-3) need to get some help to get into a final spot.

STRIKE OUT CANCER

Circle your calendars, put it in ink. April 15th is the second annual La Canada Spartans Strike Out Cancer game.

This season it is appropriate that the game pits La Canada’s Lauren O’Leary against San Marino’s Michelle Floyd. The game is scheduled for a 7pm night game.

There will be an opportunity to donate during the game.

The Spartans will be wearing pink and white and the Titans will wear the reverse colors.
