(West Covina) – With a playoff atmosphere on Wednesday afternoon, Bonita came from two-runs down to defeat West Covina 8-5 in a battle of unbeaten teams in the Hacienda League.

A see-saw affair saw the Bearcats get the lead in the top of the sixth inning on a Courtney Gano single that scored Rebecca Orozco and Liza Liddell.

Gano finished the game going 3-for-4 with three RBI’s in the win.

Bonita struck first in the second inning with Michelle Whit’s second home run of the season.

The lead didn’t last long with West Covina answering in its own half of the second. The damage came with two outs with Ashley Rodriguez and Alex Blanco on second and third. Alexis Gonzalez doubled to score Rodriguez and Blanco to give the Bulldogs its first lead of the game. Taylor Castro doubled in Gonzalez to make the score 3-1.

Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with three RBI’s for West Covina.

After a quiet third inning, Kate O’Malley (2-for-4) hit her second homer of the season to deep center field to cut the lead to one.

The Bearcats then rallied with two outs. Orozco and Vanessa Romero each singled before Gano brought Orozco in with a single to tie the score at three.

The Bulldogs battled back to the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a flurry of hits from  Blanco and Gonzalez. Blanco doubled to start the inning with Gonzalez singling her home.

Bonita added insurance runs in the seventh with one out. Breanna Sandoval and Danielle Smith each scored on O’Malley’s double. With two outs Liddell’s clutch single scored O’Malley.

West Covina added a run in the bottom of the seventh with Jennifer Rodriguez scoring after Stefanie Jimenez was the beneficiary of an error.

Anissa Sanchez picked up her 14^th win of the season.
