Off The Cuff: June 26

Just some random thoughts today.
Is it me or does the NBA draft just seem boring.  Actually to be honest, I can’t get excited about any sports draft.

The NBA is now doing a combine, like that will help the stock of any of the players picked in the top ten last night.

As much as everyone is telling Blake Griffin to run as far away from the Clippers as possible.  But maybe this is the beginning of the dynasty.  No seriously think about.

The Clippers have assembled a very good and young team.  Second-year player guard Eric Gordon showed promise and Al Thornton is a beast waiting to be released.

Now add Griffin and it is possible to think this team might be a couple of years from challenging for a Championship.

I am not drinking folks, totally sober while writing this.

Alright on to a complaint.

Superstar filly Rachel Alexandra’s owner Jess Jackson has basically said she will not run at Santa Anita for this year’s Breeder’s Cup.

I say, “Boo on you!”  So is Jackson posturing for the Breeder’s Cup to move the event to Kentucky or is he afraid that Zenyatta will crush her on a synthetic surface?

Only Jackson knows for sure.  It is a shame that a few weeks ago, I praised him for being the type of person that wanted to do what was best for the sport.

Now he is doing what he can to ruin what could have been one of the most watched races ever.

Speaking of the two big fillies.  They will both run on separate coasts this Saturday.  So if all 10 readers are inclined, you can watch Rachel Alexandra run in the Grade I Mother Goose Stakes against four other competitors in the ninth race at Belmont which goes off at 2:17 p.m.

Zenyatta will be running 13 minutes later at Hollywood Park in the Grade I Vanity Handicap against seven other rivals.

Both fillies should be heavy favorites.
