(South Pasadena) – On a hot Saturday afternoon, La Salle and South Pasadena met in a double-header that the Lancers swept 11-2, 11-0.
Strong pitching performances by Rachel Albright and Beverly Valerio helped La Salle hold the struggling Tigers to just two runs in 12 innings of play between the two games.
LA SALLE 11 SOUTH PASADENA 2 (Game One)
The Lancers jumped on South Pasadena pitching with five runs in two innings of play to give Albright breathing room after a rocky first inning.
With the score tied at two, La Salle sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs. After Karlie Buller walked, Summer Taylor reached on an error to give the Lancers second and third with one out. Victoria Baltazar singled in Buller and after a walk to Sterling Shuster; Albright helped her cause with a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Taylor. Madison Worley doubled to score Baltazar for the third run in the inning.
Albright settled in after the first inning where she allowed two runs on four hits. The remainder of the game the farthest any runner got was second base.
La Salle took advantage of numerous base on balls and hit by pitches to score in each of the final four innings.
The biggest damage came in the fifth to blow open the game. With the bases full of Lancers, Shuster doubled to score Meghan Allen and Taylor. Albright’s grounder brought home Baltazar for the fourth time in the game.
LA SALLE 11 SOUTH PASADENA 0 (Game Two – 5 Innings)
Valerio was masterful for five innings as she shut down the Tigers offense in the second game by striking out four and scattering four hits.
While Valerio quieted the Tigers, La Salle’s offense woke up for the second straight game right off the bat.
The Lancers brought eight batters to the plate in the opening inning and scored four runs. With the bases loaded, Baltazar scored on a walk issued to Worley. An error by Ashley Gentry allowed both Albright and Worley to score while Allen went to third. Buller’s double scored Allen for the fourth run.
La Salle continued its torrid scoring in the fifth inning as Baltazar, Shuster and Albright all reached without getting credited with a hit. Allen’s single scored Baltazar and Shuster to make the score 7-0.
The game completely got out of hand in the fifth inning with Lancers scoring two more runs to close the game out.
