(Alhambra) – In a battle for first in the Almont, Keppel came up clutch in the bottom of the seventh with two runs to defeat Montebello 3-2 to guarantee a share of the top spot.

The comeback win for the Aztecs came with two-outs.

A bad hop single by Brittani Hirose brought in Brianna Becerra for the game winning run. Becerra helped tie the game earlier in the inning with a double to centerfield that scored Griselda Jimenez from first to tie the score.

Shanee Medina pitched seven solid innings for Keppel allowing just one earned running while registering 14 strike outs in the win.

“I don’t think Shanee has pitched a bad game all year,” said Aztecs Head Coach Bobby Madrid.

Medina helped herself out in the third inning with a single that brought home Becerra for the game’s first run.

After cruising through the lineup, Medina got into trouble in the fifth inning.

April Marquez took advantage of Medina’s only mistake of the game and turned on an inside fastball that cleared left field for a home run.

After striking out Rodriguez, Alyssa Soneff reached on a throwing error and stole second. Medina proceeded to walk Evelyn Hernandez to give the Oilers first and second with one out. Jasmine Baltazar laid down a sacrifice bunt that Amanda Ruacho picked up and errantly threw into left field that scored Soneff from second making the score 2-1 in favor of Montebello.

Marquez finished the game going 2-for-3 with a homer and triple.

Becerra closed the game out for the Aztecs going 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.
