Bonita Moves into Semis

By Aaron Castro

(La Verne) – Justin Garza fired a two hit shutout to lead Bonita to a 7-0 win over San Gorgonio Friday and advance to the Semi Finals of the Division 3 CIF playoffs.

The Bearcats led 6-0 coming into the top of the third inning. Although Garza walked the first batter of the inning he quickly struck out the next two with the third out coming on a ground ball to short.

In the third Andrew Crowley hit a ground rule double for the only offensive production of the inning for San Gorgonio, eventually being thrown out by a quick looking Garza.  The fourth inning ended the production for the game as Matt Gelalich scored on a Robert Mier double off of Spartan pitcher Juan Rocha.

Coach John Knott eventually gave the ball to Brandon Murfett in the seventh to finish it off.

Bonita advances to its second straight semi-final appearance with the victory and will play away at Beckman on Tuesday. Beckman beat Paloma Valley 1-0. The Bearcats faced Paloma Valley on March 5 and came away with a 10-2 win. Both Adam McCreery and Brandon Murfett will be available to pitch Tuesday for Knott.
