South Hills Woes Continue in Irvine

(Irvine) – For the second straight season for South Hills, Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine became a “Field of Nightmares” as they committed six errors enroute to a 10-1 loss to Oaks Christian.

Kiana Quolas baffled the Huskies throughout the game allowing just one run and scattered four hits to help the Lions win the CIF Division 3 championship.

Kelly Spear did the most damage for Oaks Christian by going 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI’s in the win.

Heading into the bottom of the third inning with the teams tied at zero, the Lions blew the game open with five runs.

Ava Jensen singled and courtesy runner Hailey Moore took over at first. Moore advanced on Kahala Bonsignore’s sacrifice bunt. Leah Bleichner reached on an error that allowed Moore to get to third. Quolas singled in Moore for the game’s first run with Bleichner advancing to second. Hannah Roberg’s singled scored Bleichner for a 2-0 lead. After Savannah Carpenter worked her way on with a walk, Spear blasted a homer to left-center for a three-run homer.

South Hills catcher Brittney Rodriguez put a charge into the Huskies faithful with a crushing homer to left-center to cut the lead to four runs with a solo homer.

Another big inning for Oaks Christian came in the bottom of the fifth. Spear singled and Nicole Leonard doubled to give the Lions a second and third scenario. After Spear was thrown out at home on Karli Rumburg’s grounder to short, Ava Jensen homered to deep centerfield for a three-run dinger.

Oaks Christian tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth to ensure the win.
