Game Night: Mid-Valley Division – Week Three

Myles Carr and Arcadia host Temple City in the "Brawl for the Mall"

All games are 7:30 PM unless otherwise indicated

Friday September 23

Arroyo (3-0) at Hart (2-1) – (College of the Canyons)

Last Year: Hart 44-3

Steven Rivera didn’t play in last year’s game. He’s healthy and ready to go in this one. It might mean another touchdown or so for Arroyo but a victory might be a little too much to ask.

Hart hung with Tesoro two weeks ago but only beat Burroughs 24-13 last week. The Knights have a shot if they can play a perfect game. Hart pulls away late.

Hart 28 Arroyo 14

Gladstone (0-2) at El Monte (1-2)

Last Year: El Monte 32-24

Common Opponent: Covina 52 El Monte 10, Covina 42 Gladstone 0

El Monte has hit the skids since a big Zero Week win over Baldwin Park. Although facing La Puente and Covina is no day at the beach.

G-Stone was also blown out by Covina and also gave up 51 points in a loss to Bosco Tech. El Monte jumps on them early and doesn’t look back.

El Monte 35 Gladstone 21

San Marino (2-0) at Rosemead (2-0)

Last Year: Rosemead 21-7

2009: San Marino 42-20 CIF Playoffs First Round

Last Year Matt Fregoso ran all over the Titans in a 14 point victory. There’s no more Fregoso. Matt Eddy has been good on the ground so far but the Panther defense is still finding its way.

San Marino’s D isn’t bad either with two consecutive shutouts. Kwame Do solidifies the running attack. Do and a strong D should be enough.

San Marino 17 Rosemead 10

Temple City (0-2) at Arcadia (1-1) – The Brawl for the Mall

Last Year: Arcadia 42-14

2009: 28-28 Tie

Arcadia just knocked off possibly the best team in the Mid-Valley. Temple City is coming off consecutive blow out losses to Arroyo and Alhambra. The Rams will get their wins but this won’t be one of them.

Week Three of the Taylor Lagace show continues. If you get a chance get out to see him. Arcadia rolls.

Arcadia 41 Temple City 14

San Dimas (2-1) at Monrovia (1-1)

Last Year: 9-24-10: San Dimas 35-34, 12-4-10: Monrovia 47-14 CIF Mid-Valley Semi Finals

2009: 9-25-09: Monrovia 36-17, 12-12-09: San Dimas 12-7 CIF Mid-Valley Championship

It looks like the game of the week. This is developing into a bitter rivalry with the teams splitting the last four meetings over the last two years. San Dimas beat the Wildcats in the 2009 Title game but Monrovia has knocked the Saints out of the playoffs the last two years.

Monrovia lost a tough game last week to Arcadia while San Dimas has been on a two game roll after getting hammered by Bonita in the Smudgepot.

Both teams can score. San Dimas’ running attack is a little more potent. Monrovia is hoping for a little more production out of their quarterback. Wildcats should bounce back at home. They have so many athletes.

Monrovia 31 San Dimas 28

Wilson (0-3) at La Puente (2-0)

Last Year: Wilson 36-20

It’s been a rough start for first year Wilson Coach Bob Burt and the Wildcats. Nobody thought Wilson would be winless after three weeks and would get routed in the Wheel by Los Altos 32-6.

La Puente has been scoring some points. The Warriors have racked up 78 points in two games.

Wilson’s defense has had trouble making stops allowing 104 in three games. La Puente remains undefeated.

La Puente 34 Wilson 20

San Gabriel (1-2) at Baldwin Park (1-2)

This is a tough one to read. BP looked bad in the first two weeks in a blow out by El Monte and a two point loss to Lancaster. But the Braves bounced back last week to upend a strong Cantwell team.

The wheels came off for San Gabriel last week against San Dimas. The Mats were blown out by Muir three weeks ago but did manage to bounce back to beat South Pas.

San Gabriel can score on occasion but the defense is worrisome. Baldwin Park gets the win.

Baldwin Park 21 San Gabriel 14

Montebello (2-1) at El Rancho (2-1)

Last Year: El Rancho 29-9

Montebello gave Arroyo all it wanted in suffering is first loss of the year while El Rancho has won two straight after falling to Los Altos.

The Oilers look much improved. They’re running the ball well and playing pretty good defense when they have to. LaShawn Howard has run for 184 yards.

It could come down to a late field goal. Oilers prevail.

Montebello 17 El Rancho 14

LA Wilson (1-2) at Alhambra (3-0) (Moor Field)

Last Year: Alhambra 24-20

The Moors are on fire. Josh Mendoza is throwing it, Ezra Broadus is running it and the Alhambra defense is stopping it. The Moors are definite players in the Almont.

LA Wilson beat Contreras but has lost its last two. Alhambra should continue to score more. Moors remain unbeaten.

Alhambra 31 LA Wilson 17

Salesian (3-0) at Maranatha (3-0)

Last Year: Maranatha 29-28

We know about the Minutemen…Andrew Elffers, Darien McGee, Clifton Martin, etc…etc. But Saleisan isn’t too shabby. After annihilating Sierra Vista 49-0, the Mustangs put 42 up on Bishop Montgomery and took care of Pioneer 28-7. Quarterback Jihad Vercher has thrown for over 600 yards.

Like last week’s Maranatha shootout with Azusa, you can expect the scoreboard operator to be busy. Both teams can score and score quickly. The Minutemen just need to make a few more stops. And they will.

Maranatha 38 Salesian 31
