Friday Night Fraze!--- Jimmy Frazier is key for the WC heading into Hacienda play.

Good Afternoon!

Oh, I’ve always been a fantasy football fan.

“He’s a good coach, but I’ve got shoes older than him,” Salesian fan on Maranatha HC Peter Karavedas.

“Arcadia is as good or better than anyone around,” said a member of the Temple City coaching staff.

I like Covina over Pomona, but 35-6? That’s according to CalPreps, I saw it more as 31-7 Colts.

Michael Patini of The La Puente High School Warriors…is terrific.

Did you know Bill Belichick was a bust for the Cleveland Browns in his first shot at being an HC? Did you know Dick Vermeil didn’t exactly make it happen in Kansas City and was under .500 while leading the Rams? Steve Bogan missed the playoffs last season and is 4-9 overall since the start of 2010? Tip Sanders also has sketchy win-loss record. Darryl Thomas and Covina struggled through some tough seasons between the Mike McDonough and Billy Livingston eras.

Are these bad coaches? Or coaches that went through cycles and natural events?

Point is: To say the San Gabriel coaching staff doesn’t know what it is doing and is incompentent, as some bloggers have said on this site, only goes to show that a lot of bloggers have no clue as to what they are talking about.

Since getting back into this in 1998, I’ve seen bad coaches get away with murder and I’ve seen really good ones go through tough times.

Remember it was this same San Gabriel staff that was 5-5 a year ago and only four points combined from being undefeated in Almont League play…and that was with three different starting quarterbacks.

So lighten up.

Arcadia and Muir, who meet this Friday night to start Pacific League play, have opened league play 12 times before. The Mustangs have a 9-3 advantage.

…And I’ve always hated the Dallas Cowboys

Before this season began discussion about West Covina went like this: “They’ve got Chris Solomon, Justin Meaders, and, and Aaron Salgado who is only a sophomore…Oh and they also have Jimmy Frazier.”

A month into this season the same conversation might go something like this: “Thank goodness for Jimmy Frazier!”

I think Cal coming to Schurr is a better fit this week than last week when Schurr hosted El Toro…

Burbank needs to score some points and this week they get Glendale…How providential.

How good is Whitter Christian (2-2) and Ryan Morales? We’ll find out this week when they play Salesian.

Last Add Salesian: I’m betting the Mustangs are working hard on kick-off coverage this week.

Next Add Maranatha: What’s nicer the cozy confines of its football stadium on top of a parking lot?….Or the In ‘N Out truck that rolls in to feed the faithful?

Final Add San Gabriel: Alex Villalobos 16 catches against Baldwin Park last Friday night tied the school record of 16 set by Alfred Varela on November 12, 2004 at home against Bell Gardens. The Mats loss that one too.

The Dude abides…

lol nice to know i am not the only one who just thinks san gabriels head coach is just trying to make a name for himself. if his defense is struggling you would think he would play alex villalobos on d. obviously he doesn’t have the teams best interest at heart or the kids. coach jones was a way better HEAD COACH. He could at lest put a respectable coaching staff together. Does anyone know what happened to sg better coaching staff last year????? Where did they go?????

Bobby, your line wasn’t undersized, and your team speed and pursuit to the ball was better than any other team in the area with the exception of Amat and WC who were similar., Not too sure about Maggiore and the talent at Bonita, all I know is Mike does well with what he gets over at WC, we’ve only gotten transfers over the past 2 or three years because of the success Mike has had, before that not too many, but being in the playoffs every year since 99 or 2000 and winning a couple of CIF titles is pretty good work from the coach., The 2004 title team had nobody over 225 on the defense and only 1 on offense, yet they were going against teams with 300 pounders on the line, Charter Oak that year was huge, South Hills was bigger than us too, as was a very good Walnut team, yet WC beat them all in route to a title. Hard to argue with his resume.

Dan, Agreed that Bonita was stacked but those guys were in most cases undersized or vary slow for their positions. Thay all came from Bonita area and played their four years. Their is one linebacker from the W.C. area practicing with the squad but as of yet not cleared to play this year. I just don,t think Coach M could produce the team Podley did last year if coach M was leading it but I do believe a bunch of coaches could have won with W.C. talent. If I recall correctly Bonita was nowhere in the rankings at the start of last season but the players you mentioned with the exception of Pendleton were not highly regarded until they put it together as a unit. Again my post is about a coach that does the most with the least and visa versa.

    Bobby,
We get a few kids from out of area but not in the numbers or caliber of other sgv powers, but even with a couple out of area kids, I don’t believe WC was more talented than Bonita last year. Look at some of the names Bonita had last season:
Garret Pendelton, KC Huth, Erik Mikity, Garret Horine, Matt Geliach, Giomani Johnson, Austin Venagas, Reggie Turner, Kile Brunguard, Daniel Harriman, Cody McKenzie, Taraz Lemons, Nick Pochotta, That lineup is like an all star team. I’m not saying that Maggorie didn’t have as much to work with because West Co was just as stacked but he did beat Podly twice and is 3& 0 against him. Not saying he is a better coach than Podly because both are great coaches, I’m just saying he belongs in the same company as coach Pod, both are two of the better coaches in the sgv.

Dan I’am not sure but much I have read about W.C. this year and last seems to indicate that they get many good players from outside their area with more on the way.

JOE, NO ONE IS SAYING SAN GABRIEL COACHING STAFF IS INCOMPETENT, JUST THE HC. THE FANS ARE WONDERING IF HE IS COACHING A TEAM OR TRYING TO MAKE A MOVIE OR INSPIRATIONAL BOOK ON HIMSELF. I’ M SURE JOE WILL BE THE FIRST TO BUY HIS BOOK.

Bobby you can add Maggiore to your first list, he had no more than your Bonita team, both teams were stacked last season.

Joe you nailed it with Jimmy Frazier, big suprise for the sgv, although those of us who saw him over the summer knew he was up for a big year, looking forward to when Chris Solomon gets healthy, with Frazier, Salgado and a healthy Solomon, what a three headed monster that would be.
