Devil Made Me Do It

This says it all about Rick Neuheisel.

That was awful. Horrible! Uninspiring! Talk about quitting.

No not this column.

What do you UCLA fans think of Rick Neuheisel now?

The offense is vanilla. The defense has more holes than Swiss cheese and they are starting a former soccer manager at kicker.

Now before someone states that injuries at quarterback have hurt the “crap…err…gutless…gutty little Bruins”. Please note that the Pistol offense was installed when the running game decided to go south for the autumn and winter two seasons ago.

So two drop back quarterbacks (Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut) and the prodigal quarterback (Brett Hundley) in waiting now must deal with running an offense that is prone to injuring quarterbacks weekly.

This of course was implemented because of the inability to gain valuable yards the old fashioned way. The Pistol obviously failed miserably on Thursday night as the UCLA running backs couldn’t get out of their own way against an awful Arizona defense.

So now what Rick? What words of wisdom or sayings will you come up with? Especially after you had 10 full days to come up with a game plan for a nationally televised game to help recruiting. Ooops, never mind.

I can just see it now. Ring, Ring!

“Hello” – Recruit

“Hi, UCLA Head Coach Rick Neuheisel speaking.” – Neuheisel

Click. “Hello, Hello. Is this phone working?” Coach Neuheisel would ask.

It is time to be realistic. Neuheisel has to go. But so does the guy who hired him. The cold-calculating, stop talking-to-me cause I’m going to fire you at the end of the season Dan Guerrero.

Here is an Athletic Director that went with Karl Dorral (Bruin fans wish he was still around now, huh?) and canned him because he didn’t have an “exciting offense.” So in comes Neuheisel with flash and flare with the “We have a Monopoly on Los Angeles” comment.

Apparently the “Golden Boy” forgot that the game is played on the field and not in interviews.

A writer friend of mine who will remain nameless said, “He just hasn’t recruited well.” Well if you change your direction than yes he didn’t recruit great.

What’s next?

Get rid of Neuheisel at the end of the year. Target Mike Leach immediately! That means Guerrero (if he is still there) should know what Pirate hat or patch he likes. Give him a storage unit if he wants one. Let him throw players in there until they know the Spread Offense.

Leach gives the Bruins what the fans are looking for. Exciting, throw the ball every down football that will at least bring fans back to the near empty Rose Bowl.
