Alhambra's Chris Caraveo and the Moors have a huge game with San Gabriel
All games are at 7:00 PM unless otherwise indicated
Thursday November 3
Valle Vista League
San Dimas (6-2) at Northview (2-6) Covina District Field
Last Year: San Dimas 43-0
Same old story, same old song and dance my friend. This one looks a lot like last year, especially with Northview coming off a loss to Nogales last week.
There were some quality teams that haven’t stopped San Dimas. Northview won’t either.
Saints…big.

Almont League
Alhambra (7-1) at San Gabriel (4-4)
Last Year: San Gabriel 28-13
San Gabriel’s offense is back in sync. The Matadors have scored 119 points in their last three games. While Alhambra’s defense has been there, the offense has struggled. In three league games the Moors have allowed just 21 points. However offensively they needed a last second score to beat Montebello 7-6 and managed just 18 against Schurr.
Stopping SG will be a tall task. The Mats may not get 30 but they’ll get enough to win.
San Gabriel moves into sole possession of first place in the Almont.
San Gabriel 27 Alhambra 17
Schurr (2-6) at Montebello (3-5)
Last Year: Schurr 12-11
The records may look similar but the Spartans (2-1) are up on the Oilers (1-2) in league. A loss for Montebello could knock them out of playoff contention. The Oilers took care of Bell Gardens two weeks ago and had Alhambra on the ropes before falling late.
Schurr’s offense needs some help. The defense isn’t bad but is that enough?
This time Montebello wins the close one.
Montebello 14 Schurr 10
Mission Valley League
El Monte (6-2) at South El Monte (6-2)
Last Year: El Monte 49-13
All-Time: South El Monte 13-4
The third annual Griffin Bowl has shaped up to be a good one. El Monte is undefeated in league while South is 2-1. South needs it to stay alive while the Lions need it to set up a league championship next week with Arroyo.
El Monte’s offense has been on fire. Brandon Martinez and Memo Silva and have been lighting it up. South quarterback Fernando Ramirez isn’t bad either.
El Monte gets it done.
El Monte 31 South El Monte 21
Gabrielino (3-5) at Arroyo (7-1)
Last Year: Arroyo 49-7
All-Time: Arroyo 11-2
The Knights trailed at halftime before taking care of South El Monte two weeks ago. They trailed in the fourth quarter before beating Rosemead last week. They won’t trail in this one.
Arroyo remains unbeaten in league.

Montview League
La Puente (8-0) at Duarte (6-1)
Last Year: La Puente 63-0
Here’s a prediction. It won’t be 63-0. What Tip Sanders has done at Duarte is nothing short of a miracle. If someone said the Falcons would win six of their first seven games back in August, you would think they had just left the local bar. Now barring a total collapse, Duarte should get into the playoffs.
However this is one game the Falcons lose. La Puente just keeps rolling along and will meet Azusa in the season finale for a winner takes all battle in the Montview. Warriors win.
La Puente 35 Duarte 14
Olympic League
Village Christian (4-4) at Maranatha (6-2)
Last Year: Maranatha 34-20
Suddenly the Minutemen’s backs are up against the wall. Already 0-2 in league, a loss here would be devastating. On the other hand Village needs it too. A win puts them right in the mix with Valley and Whittier Christian for the league title. A loss and the Crusaders are looking at fourth.
Maranatha’s offense is due to explode after sputtering the last couple of weeks. This would be the time to do it. Minutemen get back on track.
Maranatha 35 Village Christian 28
Valley Christian (4-5) at Whittier Christian (5-3) Whittier College
Last Year: Whittier Christian 31-24
After losing all those players from last years CIF Finalist team nobody predicted Whittier Christian to win the Olympic League title. Yet here the Heralds are still unbeaten in league with two to go.
Valley is also unbeaten with only Whittier standing in the way. The Heralds will pose some problems but Valley Christian has figured them out before.
Valley reaches the summit.
Valley Christian 34 Whittier Christian 24
Rio Hondo League
Monrovia (5-3) at Temple City (0-8)
Last Year: Monrovia 40-0
All-Time: Even: 14-14-1
No. Temple City won’t “pull” something. Not this year. The Wildcats are bigger, better, faster and stronger. The Rams get their first victory next week. Cats roll.
Monrovia 45 Temple City 10
San Marino (5-3) at South Pasadena (6-2)
Last Year: South Pasadena 42-20
The Tigers look like the second best team in the Rio right now. They were impressive in wins over La Canada and Temple City.
The Titans struggled to beat TC and routed Blair. It’s huge because whoever wins here takes second in the Rio Hondo and a guaranteed playoff berth.
It will be a dog fight into the fourth quarter but South Pas comes out on top.
South Pasadena 24 San Marino 21
