Game Night Southeast Division: Week Nine

Mayfair's defense bends but doesnt break.

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 3RD

All games at 7pm.

DEL RIO LEAGUE

El Rancho (1-2, 5-3) at California (1-2, 5-3)

LAST YEAR: California 24-21

This script played out last year with California defeating the Dons and getting a leg up on the final spot with a week to go. It’s nearly the same scenario. Both teams hold destiny in its grasp with a win.

Both teams will run the ball as each has had trouble going vertical during the season.

The Condors have dropped two straight and lost a golden opportunity against Whittier last week. Think that Coach Jim Arnold will have his team primed for the win.

CALIFORNIA 28-14

PACIFIC LEAGUE

Burroughs (4-1, 4-4) vs Hoover (0-5, 0-8) (Glendale)

LAST YEAR:

Biggest question for Burroughs will be if Zander Anding gets any touches with Burbank on the schedule next week. The Indians should handle the Tornadoes with no problem as they have enough weapons in Eli Peppmuller and Brad Hunt to score points.

Hoover gave Pasadena a scare, but will need to play perfect football which has yet to occur.

BURROUGHS 35-0

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4TH

All games at 7pm.

DEL RIO LEAGUE

Whittier (1-2, 4-4) vs Santa Fe (3-0, 4-4) (Pioneer)

Last Year: Santa Fe 41-24

The Cardinals snapped a four game losing streak with an upset win over California. Giovannie Hernandez threw two touchdowns in the win and Whittier has four rushers with three hundred or more yards for the season.

Santa Fe forced Frankie Palmer to throw two interceptions in its win against La Serna. Joey Davis and Christian Mahlstede are a big reason the Chiefs are sitting on top of the Del Rio League.

SANTA FE 42-0

Pioneer (1-2, 1-7) vs La Serna (2-1, 6-2) (California) – La Serna 35-7

HACIENDA LEAGUE

Diamond Bar (2-2, 4-4) at Bonita (2-2, 4-4)

Last Year: Bonita 53-20

Both teams need a win to punch its ticket to the playoffs. Two weeks ago, the Brahmas and Bearcats were both on the outside looking and each started a playoff push by defeating teams that were in the way of extending the season.

Diamond Bar has begun to establish the run to relieve pressure on Henry Omana. Austin Szulcewski had his biggest game of the year in a must win situation against Rowland with 125 yards.

Cam Griffin and Reggie Turner are getting a ton of touches at running back and Garrett Horine is back patrolling the defensive back field.

BONITA 28-21

Diamond Ranch (3-1, 4-4) vs Walnut (2-3, 2-6) (Ganesha) – Diamond Ranch 35-14

Rowland (0-4, 2-6) at West Covina (4-0, 7-1) – West Covina 49-0

PACIFIC LEAGUE

Pasadena (4-1, 5-3) at Arcadia (4-1, 6-2)

Last Year: Arcadia 44-7

Can the Bulldogs clinch a playoff spot on the road? The Apaches have a shot at the Pacific League title with a little help from Burbank.

Brandon Cox is as advertised at quarterback. Riian Simpson can turn a small gain into game breaker with his speed and Cleo Bates is under rated at running back.

Jake Medel makes it a three-prong running attack with Rodney Arnett and Sheldon McKinley (when he is healthy). Myles Carr continues to put up video game numbers and with the way Pasadena gave up yards against Hoover, don’t feel it will be stopped against the Bulldogs.

ARCADIA 42-7

Burbank (2-3, 3-5) at Muir (3-2, 5-3) – Muir 35-14

Crescenta Valley (3-2, 5-3) at Glendale (0-5, 1-7) – Crescenta Valley 35-21

SUBURBAN LEAGUE

Mayfair (4-0, 6-2) vs La Mirada (3-1, 4-4) (Bellflower)

Last Year: La Mirada 42-14

The Matadores can make the Suburban League penthouse a little crowded with a win over the Monsoons. A win by La Mirada makes it a three-way tie for the top spot.

Explosive is a good way to define Aaron Brown and Jerry Smith as each have “home run” capability. Billy Thomas makes it tough to throw against Mayfair. The only knock on the Monsoons was the slow start against Bellflower, but the “bend, don’t break” defense will give La Mirada fits.

Kevin Dillman or Gerry Myres will need some help from the running game to keep Mayfair on its heels. Andy Gramajo, Johnny Hills and Adam Carrasco all can run when asked. Which Matadores team shows up though? The one who lost to Bellflower or the one which turned its season around by winning the last three games in a row?

MAYFAIR 28-21

Norwalk (2-2, 2-6) vs Cerritos (0-4, 0-8) (Gahr) – Norwalk 28-0

Artesia (1-3, 1-7) vs Glenn (1-4, 3-6) (Excelsior Adult School) – Artesia 49-44
