Wofford & Do Rush Titans Back Into Playoffs

(La Canada)- San Marino runinng back Kwame Do scored four touchdowns and quarterback Matt Wofford ran for a score wile directing the Titans to 37-13 victory over La Canada on Friday night. 

While both teams were stung by penalties early, it was the San Marino defense that held the Spartan offense in check to secure a return to the CIF playoffs after missing the  tournament in 2010.

The victory locked up second place in the Rio Hondo League. Mid-Valley Division brackets come out on Sunday.

Again, as it has been all season, the Titans Kwame Do started things off with a 2-yard scoring run only thirty seconds into the second quarter.

The Spartans, with negative total yards in the first quarter, responded 17 ticks later when quarterbck Matt Jones scored on an 80-yard run. The extra-point was missed, SM led 7-6.

San Marino responded with an 80-yard drive, highlighted by Do’s 49-yard run and capped by his 4-yard blast to paydirt.

With 3:42 to play in the half Nicky Gott tackled Jones in the end zone for a safety and the Titans led 16-6 at the break.

San Marino opened the third quarter with another 80-yard, 3:40, drive that was keyed by  a Wofford pass to Manny Vargas for 45-yards. Wofford scored on a 1-yard run with 8:20 to go in the frame.

LC answered with five minute drive, using short passes, screens, and dives to travel 80 yards. Jones went 16-yards to Grant Owen to tighten the score at 23-13.

It would prove to be the Spartans last hurrah, as Do dominated the fourth quarter with two more touchdown runs of 11 and 3-yards.
