Game Night-Mid-Valley Division Semi Finals: San Dimas-San Gabriel

Can Alex Villalobos and the Mats outscore San Dimas?

Kick Off 7:00 PM

Friday December 2

San Dimas (10-2) at San Gabriel (8-4)

Last Meeting: September 16, 2011: San Dimas 59-6

Nobody expected the Matadors to be here but after a surprising shutout of Maranatha and a shootout win over Arroyo here they are. Now it’s time for their biggest test of the season. It won’t be just a physical test for San Gabriel but a mental test as well. In case you didn’t hear the Saints beat the Matadors 59-6 back in September.

While the Mats had to focus on the air raids of Maranatha and Arroyo, they’ll need to shore up their run defense against San Dimas. The Saints go four deep at running back and Coach Bill Zernickow rotates them liberally. If one guy is tired, they’ll just hand it off to the next guy.

Andy Guerrero brings a spark to the Matadors and at times is magical. It looked like SG was dead and buried late Friday night against Arroyo before Guerrero came to the rescue. Alex and Joey Villalobos keep making plays both offensively and defensively.

The Matadors can score and should against San Dimas. The question is can they make enough stops to get the job done?

The Saints struggled at times against San Marino and still scored 31 points. They were down to Azusa before rallying for the win and putting up 30. There constant pounding of the ball has a tendency to wear opponents down.

The scoreboard operator should be busy but it’s San Dimas who will light it up more. Saints hold off the Mats in fourth.
