Game Night-Mid-Valley Division Semi Finals: Monrovia-Covina

Clayton Taggart and Kevin Spencer will try to contain the big Covina defensive front

Kick Off 7:00 PM

Friday December 2

Monrovia (9-3) at Covina (11-1) Covina District Field

Last Meeting: September 25, 1959: Monrovia 32-6

The Colts are looking for some payback after that shellacking they took in 1959. This could be the year they get it.

The offense is clicking with Billy Livingston, Justin Mason and Vinny Venegas. Yeah Venegas, the dude that scored six touchdowns last week. And by all accounts Gevontray Ainsworth is healthy and ready to go. He was a little banged up but Coach Darryl Thomas was able to pull him out early in the rout of Alhambra last week.

“Yes, everybody is ready to go,” Thomas said.

Defensively Covina has a big front line that could give Monrovia fits. Led by Nick Hynes, Chris Flores and Phil Romano, the Colts have shutdown prolific running attacks all year. They held Pomona’s Darius Yabrough to just 71 yards. Yabough rushed for over 2000 for the season.

Monrovia’s roster is loaded with weapons. Blake Heyworth, Marquis Bias, Luke Williams, Anthony Craft and oh yeah De’Shawn Ramirez. Yeah, Ramirez, the dude that scored four touchdowns last week.

The Defense has been solid also. Ellis McCarthy, Brett Walsh and the crew have been monsters.

Both teams can score but Covina’s line should be able to make enough stops to keep Monrovia in check. If they can get to Heyworth and can also keep Ramirez from making a big play, the Colts should be fine. The Colt defense is the difference in the end.
