Yoder Steps Down at LC

Dan Yoder cited balance as his reason for stepping down as La Canada's HC last Friday.

(La Canada)- “I really don’t have a quote for you,” says Dan Yoder about his resignation last Friday after three years leading the La Canada program.

Yoder led the Spartans to playoff appearances in both 2009 and 2010, before stumbling in 2011.

“I just want to keep a better balance of my work and home responsibilities,” said Yoder who made his mark on a memorable Week Ten Rio Hondo League playoff against Temple City in 2009.

After winning at South Pasadena, the Spartans and Rams played off a California Tie-Breaker to see which would get the RHL’s last playoff spot.

The teams traded touchdowns but it was Yoder’s decision to go for two at the end of the third frame that produced Rocky Moore’s game winning pass to Michael Arkfeld and a berth in the CIF playoffs.

“I said; ‘Guys we can kick the point after and keep playing or we can go for two, win the game, and go to the playoffs’,” said Yoder. “I looked into their eyes and there was no doubt. They wanted to win it.”

Yoder finishes his three-year run with a 13-18 overall record, including an 8-7 record in Rio Hondo League play.
