(Monrovia) – Ellis “Zeus” McCarthy of Monrovia is one of six finalists for the Anthony Munoz Lineman of the Year Award the U.S. Army All American Bowl Selection Committee announced Wednesday.
The award, given to the top prep linemen in the country, is named after the Pro Football Hall of Fame lineman who spent 12 years with the Cincinnati Bengals after his college career where he was an All American in 1978-’79. Munoz was also named to the NFL’s 1980s All Decade Team.
The award winner will be announced January 6, 2012 U.S Army All-American Bowl Awards Dinner in San Antonio, Texas.
McCarthy, who visited UCLA last weekend along with other recruits, is also being recruited by PAC 12 schools USC and Oregon.
McCarthy, 6-4, 310, was in on 55 tackles and had five sacks, usually facing double and triple teams. He just finished helping Monrovia to its second consecutive CIF Mid-Valley Division championship December 10.
