7.) Also on this date in 1977 former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers (Nebraska) jumped from the CFL to the NFL and signed with the San Diego Chargers the team that originally drafted him in 1973.

“Just what we need,” said Charger HC Tommy Prothro. “A receiver with speed. He’s been the best everywhere he has played.”

Rodgers played 17 games in two years, caught 17 passes, and scored no touchdowns.
